Powerballs

Got mine the other day, was rubbish to start, gave it to my mate and he had it going instantly.

Now were both trying to break the 10K barrier with 9953 the top score. It is really addictive and both our arms are in a constant state of ache...

Anyone got any top tips for those real high speeds... i just cant seem to move my arm fast enough..
Your arm isn't supposed to be moving, its your wrist that should be doing the hard work

Just got a neon green one of these but stupid me got one without a counter! Can I fit one now if I buy it online?

The rubber bits taken a bit of skin of my little finger thats how much I've been using it!

lol maybe we should have an OCUK powerball league. :D
That would be pretty good, although I swear that there was one years ago.

Anyways, I've just had another go with mine and I didn't manage to break 10k, 9950 on my left (am left handed), i start off on my right get as fast as i can, only 8633 today on my right, then swap over, I'm not happy at my score :( :)

Someone should get a leader board up.

My dad brought one of these home from work a few months back.

I got sucked in by the constant will to beat my previous score and actually gave myself a sore wrist and some very sore fingers after a couple days use. I could swear powerballs encourage arthritis.

Whappers

How do you guys get it started with your thumb? I've seen that video on the website but I can't get it spinning anywhere near fast enough with my fingers! Guess I'm a weakling, I should practice more... :p

Oh dear not power balls again. I picked min up the other day after not using it for ages and managed to bust out 12400 but my top score is 12887!

I think i payed a tenner for mine from "someone who might be a competitor".

Time to roll out my old piccie again...funny how powerballs keeps coming around.

Rory from Powerballs even joined this forum, there were that many people at one point...

If you use it too much, you WILL get RSI... especially if you've just started using one.

Yeah if you don't use it sensibly then obviously it can have a negative effect, same with most things in life.

How do they work? They seem intresting but i really dont see how they work
I'm guessing the gyroscope is asymmetrically weighted on one sige at about 45 degrees from the angle of rotation, meaning that one side of the powerball has more kinetic energy than its opposite side. This causes it to spin horizontally as well as vertically, and your circular wrist movements translate that horizontal rotation velocity into faster vertical rotation. Bah I wish I knew how to express this better, haven't studied physics since I was 16 at school so I'm not sure if this is making sense to anyone, or if it's the right answer at all :(

The rotor on the inside is perfectly balanced...imagine the vibration if it were not balanced at nearly 15k rpm!!

The rotor spins on one axis, whilst rotating on to plastic slides on the other axis. There is a small deliberate gap which allows the rotor to rotate along the second axis, which is the axis your hand rotates in.

Very difficult to describe in words, but you'll get how it goes in seconds of trying it. It tries to force away from you just like any gyroscope, and you basically work in harmony with that working down to smaller and tighter circles which ups the rpm of the rotor.

I'm getting one of these wee beasties for my birthday next week. I look forward to having a bash with it!!!

Just bought mine, should be arriving here soon!

As a drummer it'll be interesting to see how good my wrist is! (no lewd jokes please :p )

Well, I didn't want to start another thread so I posted in here....

Got my Orange Powerball Pro today and I've been giving it a spin so to speak. Managing 10260 right arm and just under 10k left (cant seem to get the motion quite right with my left arm yet). I have a few nasty blisters appearing too...

/edit

10273 left arm.
