Powerline networking

Will powerline adapters give me a better consistent speed then and £40 instead of paying £100+ for a top of the range router that is still not better.

Good ones will, unless Thomas Edison installed your home electrical system himself :) As mentioned the TP AV200s are fab

Even when plugged into normal extension leads

Where my router is there is only 1 socket, the router, phone etc is all connected up to the extension and upstairs next to my computer I have a double socket.

The work best in the wall but mine have worked fine on extensions on both ends obviously YMMV. Also, is there another plug anywhere near the router? You could use a long eithernet cable

You can use them in extensions but you will lose some speed on your connection.

I have a double socket downstairs next to my router, phone, table lamp and TP link adapter, I have had to run an extension cable from another socket along to where my router is and plug in all the items mentioned earlier except the tp adapter and just have it plugged into the double wall socket on it's own.

Upstairs I have my PC, speakers, monitor and external hard drive plugged into my 5 way surge plug and it is plugged into an extension running into a different wall socket in the room allowing me to only have the TP adapter plugged into the wall socket on it's own and this gives me nearly double my speed compared to plugging the adapters into surge plugs or having everything plugged into the double sockets next the the adapters.

I have the extra extension cables neatly under the carpet so everything looks tidy.
