PPI Claim

I wish PPI claims would stop, all the ads on Sky for it are really annoying!

What I don't get though: It's always "were you mis sold PPI? If you didn't ask for it..." What's stopping Mr Dishonest ringing up saying "yeah I was mis sold PPI, didn't know my loan had it" when in-fact he did know he had it, he deliberately chose it incase he lost his job but as he didn't end up claiming on it he now wants the money back.

Not that I feel sorry for the lenders mind. From what I read loads of people were mis sold PPI as it wouldn't have actually paid out for them (self employed, etc).

I called the bank and got the ball rolling, didnt even fill a form, 2 months later a cheque for 2k.

A 20 minute phone call.

That's all it took.

Not bad... I've received a little over 4k :|

Going straight into savings acc.

The dirty work involves filling in a few forms. You've basically given them 400ish for absolutely nothing.

This. My mum just got £8.5k out of the bank by doing the work herself.

The thing I find a bit odd about these sheer number of PPI claims is how were ALL these people mis-sold PPI? They can't all have been ineligable through self employment surely? I guess its the easiest thing in the world to claim you were told you 'had' to have it when no record of the conversation exists, mind.

I wonder how many claimants are just people who retrospectively realised they didnt need it in the first place and see this as an opportunity for a refund..

or they were told you can't have the credit card unless you take the ppi, therefore mis-sold :)

Can I ask why you went through a 3rd party company?

I did mine through my bank. Told them I didnt think I would get the loan if i didnt take out the insurance (genuine not a lie) even though I had a full time job. 16 weeks later I got my insurance loan amount back +8%. Didn't have to pay anybody anything as the bank did it all.

How is it missold if it was you who thought you had to have it not them telling you that you had to have it?

Yes they implied you wouldn't get the loan without the ppi, don't think it wad ever written down all part of the hard sell, I remember getting 5k from Lloyds 10 years ago and they were trying to scare me into the ppi trying to tell me they'd go after my family if I died etc

I never took one though

Hrm I always recall saying no to PPI whenever I've taken out a credit card or loan. Who have you guys gone with that have miss sold you PPI?

I sent 3 letters to Santander, they fobbed me off 3 times, I called the FOS, sent them all the details, and 2 weeks after that I got a cheque for £1200.

I was approached by a rep in a shopping centre. They said I could only claim through them (or a company like theirs). I've recently found out this was a load of rubbish.

Had I known I couldve done it myself I would have!

Pretty much this for me as well, thought there was a c/card I had a while back (talking 10yrs) that had PPI but I cancelled it. I think I've still got some of the paper statements in the loft - can I claim on these?

Older than 6 years isn't likely. When you say you cancelled it, do you mean the card or the PPI?

As stated above, if you weren't missold it, you shouldn't be claiming, it's not just a way to get money.

The PPI, can't say I was missold as I was aware of it; though I don't remember having the option of not having it to start with - it was only after a while I thought why am I paying for this?

Becasue of this I don't get how the PPI could be missold in the first place?
