Ok, I've had the car back now for a couple of weeks now but it's taken a little while to get all of the niggling problems sorted out. Pictures as below ;)

It's a 1995 M-Reg MR2 GTi-16 but wait, there's something wrong here... A few of you might remember me posting about it in July 2006 when I actually first bought it. So what's different then?

That looks like a turbo to me :D:D

Since I bought it, I knew that the car craved more power. So I waited 18 months and saved up - In the meantime I tidied the rest of the car up so most of the suspension and brakes have been renewed along with some braided brake lines and poly suspension bushes that have been fitted.

Happy .. hell yeah I am!

MR2s are actually quite common around the Basingstoke area, so you probably wouldn't know if you'd seen me!

The car is still badged with the Uk spec trim (Stealthy), however I haven't had the joy of scaring someone who think's they're pitting against a lowly N/A engine yet :(

There's a fan hiding down beside the I/C on the right hand side of the engine bay picture. Other than that, no engine bay cooling other than the wind passing through it.

[Edit] The brakes set up is exactly the same between the N/A and Turbo editions anyway. As mentioned, I've had poly suspension bushes fitted. The only other suspension difference between mine and a normally Tubby model is the dampers IIRC

raised vents for the fan above the turbo, i think you should look at getting a turbo engine bay lid, will get very very hot :(

No hotter than a standard Turbo engine bay.. The raised lid vents are purely cosmetic - There's a fairly popular modification in putting fans underneath the engine lid, but AFAIK, it wasn't a standard option

The LSD is in the gearbox, not the engine.

Yes I'm aware of that.. What I meant was the Engine and Gearbox came from an accident damaged donor :p

The car was originally an N/A Model but now has a turbo clip fitted. The suspension and brakes differences between the N/A and Turbo models are only very slight.

I chose this over a V6 conversion a) Because the overal power between the standard N/A V6 lump and the 3SGTE is reportedly similar b) The V6 option would've costed me an extra £1k over what I paid for this fitting

I did think quite heavily about what engine I wanted to have fitted - I finally decided that if I went the V6 route, then there was very little that *I* could do the engine in order to make improvements to it. I know you can have the heads ported and there's even a Turbo V6 in the UK now, but it's all fairly labour intensive work compared to bolting bits onto an existing engine.

I still love the V6 roar though :)

I'm still at the beginning levels of modification on mine :D

*Braided brake lines
*Poly suspension bushes
*Ind Kit
*Fujitsubo exhaust backbox inc Decat (not pictured)

Plans are to replace the I/C and eventually upgrade the turbo to a CT20b from a Celica ST205 (Steel shafted I think) before playing with boost pressure and eventually a remap.. These rising fuel costs are going to kill me :o

I used to average anywhere between 300 and 330 miles to a 45L fill up depending on the road conditions.

I once managed 42mpg on a long run though :D

For an N/A figure (esp a rev5) that's really unhealthy! Do you cruise at 100mph or something :p

The book figure is a combined 35mpg for the later 3SGE engines (rev3 onwards). Are you sure your brakes aren't binding or something?

[Edit] The plan is to keep the outside looking standard - largely because I like the original styling of the Mk2 shape. The only bit that I think I'd change would be the "sleepy-eye" quad highlight conversion just to lower the pop-up profile slightly
