Ok guys so I should have the last piece of the jigsaw here soon, and its my first real foray into overclocking an AM3 system.
So what I would like to know, max safe voltages for cpu, and nb etc.

System is 550 BE
Asus M4A79XTD evo
G-Skill Ripjaw 1600mhz.

The graphics and CPU will be watercooled, the motherboard is keeping stock cooling.

Check out the table at the bottom of this.

Max voltage for cpu and cpu-nb are both 1.5 for standard cooling. Depends if you class your watercooling as 'extreme' :D

Good luck clocking.

Are you unlocking the 550?

Cheers.
Hoping too unlock, we shall see what it can do :)
Looks like around 75% chance of 4 core unlock from XS forums table.

Well I am up, running and under water, time to see what she will do.
I would like quad at 3.8+ or dual at 4, maybe a bit hopeful but that would make me very happy, first off, time to see if I can have a quad ..

Hmmm ... I think I have the worst 550BE [Jeremy Clarkson] in the world ! [/Jeremy Clarkson]

I cant even get into windows at much more than 3.6, even with 1.5vcore.

Is there something I am missing being an AMD overclocking newb, or have I just got a POS cpu ?

Not happy with with this if so, need to save for a new AM3 chip :(

Bad luck dude. Thats really annoying. Tried giving the cpu-nb voltage a bump?

What speed memory are you running? the chip does not officially support 1600 speeds so it might be worth clocking it back while you do your overclocking.

Yeah I had mem at 1066 while overclocking the cpu, but now the cpu speed has been set I am running it 1600.
CPu nb help with unlock or overclock ? tbh kinda starting to think 965 is the way to go ;)

Well it might be worth trying boosting the cpu-nb voltage but to be honest if it does not unlock easily then it wont unlock I dont think...

Guys, I had been playing safe by leaving voltages on auto ... or so I thought.
It would appear, however, that the mobo adds voltage as it thinks suitable, obviously not good ! (I booted into windows @ 3.8 and saw vcore was 1.57 )
So can I ask what are the stock values for the below, in order I can ensure that I know exactly what it should be and how much I am increasing by ?

So what are the stock values for the below please:

CPU NB voltage
CPU VDDA Voltage
HT Voltage
NB Voltage
SB Voltage

Dont know about any of that sorry. But just found out that lowering the ht multi in BIOS can help to unlock. Try lowering it by 3 or 4 notches to see if that works.
