ok, sorry if this is the wrong place. i pre-ordered fifa 12 from a supermarket online in the hope it would be here for tomorrow, but it didnt arrive today. if it does not arrive in the post tomorrow, would i be within my rights to purchase a copy from the store, then return the pre-ordered copy when it does arrive?

You're always within your rights to return a game providing the plastic seal hasn't been opened as far as I know, it's covered by the long distance selling regulation, they don't have to be defective in anyway. As soon as it's opened though? It's a definite no return for online shops.

the thing is, i dont want to send it back really, as postage would be required so would i be able to return it to one of their stores? or are generally online sales kept seperate?
having read some people saying the activation check wont let you play until midnight anyways, makes me wonder why i didnt just wait until tomorrow and get it from a store.

Why not return the preordered copy to store? They will never know it was from somewhere else if its sealed and you have a receipt surely? That said, it will more than likely arrive tomorrow.

hope so, it still says awaiting dispatch, and has done for over a week now, although dispatch time says 4-5 working days.
i guess the store wouldnt know which copy came from them so i could do it that way, just frustrating that i pre-ordered it expecting it to be here in time, and then it never arrived. can guarantee now that tomorrow the 3GB update thing it needs from origin will be slooooow due to the masses trying to use it, where the early arrival of the pre-order would have eliminated this. oh well, will learn to only pre-order when its available on steam and buy everything else on day of release.

I'm confused. You want to return a game that hasn't been released yet?

It might well arrive tomorrow morning. What's the big deal?

no, what im saying is, if the pre-ordered version does not arrive tomorrow, it wont turn up until monday, and the reason i pre-ordered was so i had it for the weekend. most pre-ordered games i have had i recieved on the weds or thurs, which is why i pre-ordered this. so no, i dont want to return a game thats not out, i want to know if i can buy it tomorrow if my pre-ordered copy does not arrive, and then return the pre-ordered one to a store to get my money back.

lol hilarious thread...OP is mr impatient to the max.
your literally crying about something you dont know has happened yet..

in future why dont your order from somewhere like shopto where you guaranteed it on release and if you don't get it they give you money back.

Hes not tearing his hair out about not being able to play his game tomorrow, hes simply thinking ahead and asking a question if the worst case scenario takes place. I dont know about OP being mr impatient but you sure seem like mr overreaction :p

well i cancelled my order, so it clearly hadnt been shipped. how am i being mr impatient? i have the weekend off, im sorry, i work all week so i would like to be able to play it when im at home. i know that there are normally updates and the likes for games, so having it early means i can get them out the way before the servers get flooded with everyone that didnt pre-order. why didnt i just walk to the shop? because i work 9-6 so most shops are shut by the time i finish, so by the time i have had something to eat, driven somewhere that is open late i wont get much time to play it. if this is wrong then fine, but to be honest, all i was asking was if i picked it up from the same store i pre-ordered it from could i return it if it hadnt arrived on day of release, else there was no point pre-ordering in the first place.

My local Asda is open almost 24/7 during the week, what was stopping you picking a copy up after work to play at the weekend?

Also, game is out on a Friday, so it's possible for a Friday / Saturday delivery.

Might I ask where you ordered it from?

Amazon, have only ever missed one pre order with me (of which I received £25 in vouchers when I flagged the issue and made them aware of problems with their courier service in the area)

I don't tend to pre order much, but getting this worked up over something that you haven't received early is silly.

tummy has a good piont

u could stay up for another 30 mins ? drive to asda buy it,,, problem solved

Was this with their free delivery, or did you have to pay for the next day one to get it on release day?

Haha no I wouldn't of complained had it been free delivery. I'd paid a lot of money to have a courier company deliver it before a certain time :)

The company were awful, ended up driving out to their depot and picking it up 2 days after the delivery date.

I phoned / emailed the company to be told it was "out for delivery" which it wasn't, was told I can't pick up the order from the depot as it's "too busy", drove out, saw that there were signs up for "drivers needed" and was told by one of the ladies who operated the phones (she had to come across from a separate part of the building to do the order) that they were majorly understaffed and she'd have to go look herself for the item in the warehouse. (There were no warehouse staff in, the staff they had were out delivering, she said that they'd not delivered anything that had come in within the past ~3 days either) Shocking service.

Got back an hour later to a voice mail on my phone saying that the item would be delivered later that day :D

City Link, avoid. I emailed Amazon several times and was eventually replied to by a manager (or so the email said) and he said all the couriers were up for review, and that complaints like this were flooding in about City Link.

i ordered it from TESCO. i could drive to a 24/7 supermarket and get it yeh, but there isnt one close to me, so like i said, by the time i finish at 6, get home, eat etc it will 7-7:30, then drive to the nearest 24/7 it will be 8-8:30, buy it, drive home looking at 9:30-10, and even when i have gone through all of this, our supermarkets carry a very small range of pc titles, so there is no guarantee they will even have fifa for the pc. seems like a lot of hassel when a few clicks on the internet to pre-order something to get here for the day of release was available. but you live and learn, will only pre-order digital download versions in future, if its not available at a reasonable price on that will just wait til i get to a shop.
like i said though, TESCO let me cancel my order last night, so the item still obviously hadnt been shipped, so they took my money 10 days ago, claimed to dispatch the item 4-5 working days, and it was still sitting there. that is my frustration. yes there are ways around it but its not the point, why offer a service you cant deliver.

EDIT : phoned around and none of the supermarkets within a 60mile radius have pc version in stock so cant even do that. looks like i might be better off buying it through origin as its only £5 more.

Like someone else mentioned - check out Shopto.net

The guarentee ALL pre-orders for release day. Problem solved for future releases.

I use them or Amazon. Even on Amazons free delivery i've never had an order fail to arrive on release day in 10 years.
