** PRE-ORDER SPECIAL PRICE: OcUK ATI HD 6850 OC ONLY £89.99 Inc. VAT!! **

Ooh, this is exactly what I need. It is a little earlier than I planned, but I'll see if I can get the money together in time. :)

I was literally looking at getting secondhand 6850's for this sort of price. :)

How noisy are these in real world at idle? I have seen the specs but they are different dwpending on varibles.

Htpc suitable? Or should i spend £50 more on a silent 6850? Im not bothered about load noise.

I don't really think there's any cards nowadays that aren't more or less silent whilst idle. Both AMD and Nvidia cards downclock the core, shader and memory speed significantly when not running 3D applications. Even my ageing 8800GT is silent in my HTPC when it's not doing anything!

Good to hear, might go for this, seems the 6850s go for more on the mm used sometimes just hope it can handle games on my tv ok

The cooler looks very similar to the one on my Asus GTX560, which although quiet does have a slight "click" to it at it's lowest speed. Could well be a different fan on these though.

How audible is that? I will be sitting 3-5 ft from the htpc when the room is set up

It would be noticeable if the rest of the htpc is silent. When it's at it's lowest setting of 20% the fan runs at about 1800rpm, which I've always thought is a bit excessive. I wouldn't like to make any judgements on this card though as the fan may be running at different speeds.

Tempted to upgrade from my 4870 with 512MB ram.

Is the 6850 a good over-clocker? Any chance of unlocked shaders?

The only thing I play which I would like to increase the settings on is Skyrim.

One of the reviews has the card in this offer overclocked to 960MHz on the core and 1165MHz on the VRAM (up from 790MHz and 1000MHz).

There are no extra shaders to unlock, that's the HD 6950 if it can be done.

Thanks for the info, the htpc isnt dead silent, but i am trying to make it more silent, lowering fan speeds etc, that is a bit worrying, slowest speed 1800, i consider that fast, would be annoying as the the scs3 silent 6850 is 50£ more!

Doh! Typical after I just went for a 460 :o

It depends what you paid for it.

The GTX 460 and HD 6850 offer boadly similar performance so as long as you didn't pay a lot more for it you've not missed out.

If you paid a fair bit more then you can return the GTX 460 under the Distance Selling Regulations as long as you bought it mail order from a business seller and you notify them within 7 working days from the day after you received it.

You'd get a full refund (including postage) but you have to pay the postage to return it.

Sorry, bit of a noob to the current graphics card situation.

Can anybody explain what exactly is the benefits and difference of version 2 to version 1?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Not a lot from what I can see.

The V2 requires two 6 pin power connectors and the V1 only one 6 pin power connector (as do most HD 6850's).

Just guessing but perhaps that allows the V2 to overclock a little further.

I previously had the v1 with 1 pcie connector. Managed about 925/1100 on mine and held it there. Great little card it was.

Any chance someone might have the dimensions for this card including the cooler?

My friend is looking for a cheap replacement for his cooked card but he's just unsure whether it will fit in his case.

My friend is looking for a cheap replacement for his cooked card but wants to do crossfire with these but he's just unsure whether it will fit in his case.

10.24 " x 4.84 " Inch (length and height).

The card is 2 expansion slots wide so if the PCI-E slots are 2 slots apart the cards will be pretty much sandwiched together. More than 2 slots apart would allow for better cooling.

What motherboard does he have?
