Pre Purchasing Games

Why pre order to save £5 on an inflated release price when I can get it for half price when it's eventually been fixed. Or even save the entire purchase price when it becomes obvious that it'll never be the game that the per order trailer claimed it would be.

The pre order option was relevant when physical supplies where limited and you wanted it in the post asap after release. How this is still a thing is beyond me.

Couldn’t agree more.

I’d rather wait, especially as I tend to play single player games.

I get to play the most complete version of a game at a much cheaper price.

That's all good if you are happy to wait 6-12 months for every single game. I am able to it for most, but not all games I buy. Surely almost everyone has a game they get excited about and wants to play it day one once in a while :)

Yeah there are a couple that I buy on launch. Borderlands games as I always spend hundreds of hours on them. I've racked up over 1000 on 3 on steam lol. Should have passed on Tiny Tina though, paid full whack for the Chatoic edition and just didn't like it, not much end game stuff to do either.

GTA games end up being bought on release, but on the whole I'm happy to wait and pay lower prices. I really fancy returnal on PC but it's still 30 quid. I'm waiting until it gets under 20 quid.

So basically you almost do what I do then. I also fancy returnal, but don’t want to pay more than £20 so I am waiting. The game I pre-order I am almost certain I will enjoy and if there is an issue and reviews come out that says it’s crap I just get a refund. Therefor I don’t get what the problem is with saving the money if I was going to be playing it day one anyway.

The point I'm making is that there's no need to pre order in order to guarantee that when it's a digital copy - under what circumstances would it not be available on release day to customers who didn't pre order?

Yeah availability on digital is a non issue I agree. But it's also so obvious I thought you were going at it from another angle.

I assume the incentive there is the 500 club points or do you still get those if you buy the game on day 1 ?

Does that site have a refund policy? If it doesnt then I dont know why anyone would get from that site instead of from Steam anyway.

I've already posted earlier in the thread which titles I preorder and why those ones, so I wont repeat myself on that (feel free to scroll and take a look if curious) but why I preorder those particular examples is because I want to, thats the bottom line I guess, whether I pay £50 for Civilization 7 before its released or £50 for the next Anno game before its released, or whether I pay the £50 for Civ 7 or the new Anno on the day its released, its still £50. So financially makes no difference to me so I might as well do it early and then its done and dusted. Its not the only thing I do that way of course, I do all things that way generally. When I book a hotel for example, I could pay for it upon arrival but instead I pay for it in advance so that its all done and dusted , same with cinema trips, could pay when I arrive but instead I pay in advance. I like to get things done and out of the way, I'm a why put off til tomorrow what you can do today kind of guy :)
Yeah that's all well and good but you're missing the point entirely.

Its an explanation of why there are some titles that I am willing to preorder, that seems fairly on point.

The other point of would there be no shambles of games if there were no preorders I've already covered in my other posts

My parents pre-ordered castle of illusion or Jurrasic Park on the Mega Drive, can't remember which. Pre-orders have been here for as long as I can remember.

Pre-ordering isn't the be all and end all of the current state of many games being released today, the gaming industry isn't as simple as it was 20/30 years ago.

I'll be pre-ordering Diablo 4, I'll probably pre-order Final Fantasy 7 remake part 2 because I want to play them on day 1. If that angers you, cool :)
Especially these days, when you can get a refund, nothing wrong with pre-ordering. Something like Diablo 4, it'll have had 3 betas before it releases so yeah, nothing wrong with pre-ordering that.
