Pre-season Football 2011/2012 Season

Very, the one consolation from this is that it hasn't been "liverpool" on the pitch, most of these players are definitely not first team, some probably won't play a single league match all season.

Hopefully.

Why is cole so greedy infront of goal when he is so bad?
God i really wish to never see him or poulsen in a liverpool shirt again. Degen too.

Cole looks shockingly unfit, has been huffing and puffing all through this match. Well, unfit by footballer standards , I mean he is still probably fitter than me :)

Suarez, Downing, Meireles, Gerrard, Lucas, Adam, Carragher, Agger, Skrtel, Johnson and Henderson all missing means I'm not really that worried. Shame we haven't been able to use pre-season better to build up some confidence and fluidity though.

Definitely need a LB though, crying out for someone with pace to get back.

Not impressed with Doni so far and I'd be very worried should Reina pick up an injury during the season.

Flanagan and Robinson aren't ready for first team football week in week out and Kelly doesn't look ready to play at centre back yet.

Poulsen, Degen and Cole all need to be sold, given away or put down and Shelvey and Spearing both need to go out on loan to gain some experience.

Insua showed some promise three years ago but fell to pieces when we had to rely on him the season before last. If we sign a left back I'd try and sell him, if not he'll be a useful player to have with Aurelio snapping every five minutes.

Other than a steady improvement to fitness levels there hasn't been very many positives to take from our friendlies so far. I would say Aquilani has looked fantastic but he'll probably be sold so it's not really a postive :o

See BaZ, a new positive attitude for the season :p

How have Liverpool managed to concede 12 goals in 4 pre season games

By playing 2nd, 3rd and at times even 4th place keepers and a hotch potch of various 2nd and 3rd string players. Almost seems that much of our first team has barely had a run out in the preseason friendlies. If anything the ones who have gained fitness are the ones who won't make the team most of the time anyway. :)

So that would be that manager (King Kennys) fault? No?

And why's that? That's what pre-season is for? I know Suarez has been at the Copa America as has Lucas and Gerrard is injured but surely the likes of Carroll, Meireles, Adam, Downing, Kuyt etc etc should be playing in every single one of your pre-season games

Fault might not be quite the right word, his decision yes, but I couldn't use the word fault (implying negativity) without knowing his reasons. I'm guessing he has been doing it for the shop window reason or maybe to see if any if them can step up to the plate given the chance (which evidently is a no :) ). If that is the case then I'd use the word decision rather than fault.

I couldn't say why that is. You'd need to ask dalglish that, and contrary to some belief I am not he :D

You're not

I was actually starting to believe that Honda was signing for you and everything :p

Somewhere in some parallel universe he did :D

Mind you of course, somewhere in some parallel universe SAF has been Liverpool manager for the last few decades and poulsen has been European footballer of the year for the last 5 years running. Now there's a scary thought :)

It's Dalglish's fault that Reina, Johnson, Agger, Skrtel, Aurelio, Gerrard and Meireles are injured and that Lucas and Suarez have not started pre-season yet because of the Copa America? Dalglish also mentioned that certain players weren't eligible to play today but didn't fully explain what that meant.

While the last couple of results weren't great things have to be put into perspective. We've had the majority of our first team unavailable for 1 reason or another and unlike other clubs, we've not been playing against part-time sides.

edit: A thought on what Dalglish said about some players not being eligible; Downing might not have had his international clearance through to enable him to play. I can't imagine that was a problem for Henderson though seeing as he signed so long ago. I suspect he was left out as he's only just startet pre-season and is going to play on Monday, and isn't in a position to play both games.

Lots of teams have had lots of first teamers unavailable, but the playing part-time sides, seriously? Two crap asian teams, Hull, leaving Galatasaray the only decent side and still Turkish footie isn't particularly big, but away is always difficult. Considering who Utd/City have been playing, and Villa playing Blackburn, etc, etc, Liverpool haven't been playing "strong" opposition in the slightest.

Likewise, Cole is on a huge wage and seemingly unwilling to leave(or no one wants him, or a mix of both) and appeared 20 times for liverpool last year, Caragher has played, Agger, Kelly, Flanagan have all played the last two had quite a lot of games, 18 for Kelly, 7 for Flanagan, midfield wise.

Spearing 15 games, slaphead no.2 had 21 games(mostly sub and not much time to be fair). While they aren't first team a lot of them, they are FAR more than the 4th choice players you seem to be trying to say, a lot of these guys had more starts/appearances/time on the pitch than a lot of subs/2nd string at other top clubs.

Not saying its a hugely strong team, just not quite as weak as you seem to be suggesting, theres been plenty of experience, not very good opposition and even the strongest squads haven't been very good so far.

EDIT:- Also not suggesting its a ridiculously bad preseason or it means altogether that much for the coming season, but those players being injured and your Copa stars not being back yet, some/all of them could be missing come the start of the season, in which case the current players who really aren't playing well against not great teams could indeed be the guys lining up for the first few games of the season, and a lot of them will play probably quite a lot this season.
