Pre-season Football 2011/2012 Season

Thats the thing about Arsenal that must kill their fans. Its not the disappointment - its the hope! They really arent THAT far away from being a top side but a miss is as good as a mile really. Unless they sort out the obvious 2 or 3 players then they may as well stop torturing themselves by flirting with success in the CL and PL!!

We'll keep the flirting, but yes, pretty much. Fortunately hopes seem especially low this year, so less chance of feeling disappointed when the inevitable occurs!

emirates cup was a joke for arsenal, however for £25 i got to see two games of football and was 15m away from Henry, so all in all not a bad day. The emirates is easily the best stadium in London, if not the whole league

This is what kills me and people don't seem to get. For maybe all but last season I think Arsenal have been completely capable of winning the title. Drop Song, put Eboue, or Wilshire, or Toure (when we had him) in DM, play 4-4-2. In the last few years, play Bendtner/RVP or Bendtner/Eduardo or Bendtner/Vela upfront and our players who are actually good on the wing... on the wing.

Its inane stupid decisions that kill our seasons, not lack of players, its awful substitutions, getting rid of the wrong players, ridiculous contract situations we get into over and over again that cost us millions and millions in lost resale value.

We don't need massive investment, we need to play our best and in form players and drop Wengers "favourites" when they are playing like crap. RVP is just not good as a lone striker and there isn't a single player at the club the 4-3-3 system helps play better. Ok, I'll take that back, Song would look even more incompetant in a 4-4-2 with less cover. None of our strikers are lone strikers, none of our wingers are even ruddy wingers.

If we sucked, had no money, weren't paying the likes of Diaby 50-60k a week to be injured 3/4 of every season and to be absolute gash the other 1/4, I wouldn't care if we were midtable or whatever, but we have a title capable squad, being mismanaged to death while every season we lose the best players.

Wembley?

I must say i like Wembley better than Emirates, Maybe it is because that is where i saw City win their first major trophy for 35 years :p

Have you ever been to the Emirates?

Or were you being humorous?

In what way is it the best? Comfort and facilities or atmosphere?

Admittedly I've only been once but as a football stadium I hated it. I found it lifeless and it lacked any atmosphere. I guess that's a consequence of having bigger, more spaced out seats etc. It's something I've heard from a lot of football fans that have been to the Emirates too.

I've said before that I'd hate it if Liverpool built something like the Emirates or Wembley.

I meant if you hadn't been to the Emirates were you just being humorous saying Wembley is better just because you won a trophy there.... but fair play if you've been to both

Oh,

I have been to most prem stadiums actually.

Emirates is good but i prefer Wembley over it.

The best ones i have been to are Etihad, St James Park, Emirates and Stoke.

Westfalenstadion is by a mile the best new/recently renovated football stadium in the world. The likes of the Emirates and Wembley might be great stadiums but they're not great football stadiums.

Anyone know who will be playing in the Edwin Van Der Sar testimonial on wednesday? 3 games taking place on MUTV starting at 4:30pm

Ajax vs VDS's dream team
Ajax u13's vs Man U u13's
Ajax 95 vs Holland 95

Wonder if Bergkamp will play?

confirmed:
Ferdinand, Scholes, Vidic and Gary Neville

and then on friday its the Paul Scholes one. 3 testimonial's in a few months for ex united players. :( Still got the Gigg's one and then thats that era over with. Probably have a Beckham one too.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but Arsenal booed off in a pre-season friendly for defensive problems :p

A sign of things to come? :D

I can't believe all this drama over some friendly's. There was a time when it was almost impossible to get friendly results unless you went.

We were clearly the best team in the tournament but thank god, the guys treated it as a friendly and didn't do anything stupid. This was clear for pretty much the whole game yesterday. If it was a competitive tournament we'd have won it at a canter defensive issues or not.

It's funny also that every goal Arsenal concede is part of this big defensive issue. The forwards are to blame as much as anyone for not scoring more goals when we were so dominant (pretty much the whole game). The goal we conceeded well, I've seen a lot worse in the PL most weeks from other teams. These goals went in when the team was pretty disrupted by lots of subs and the likes of Squillaci, Bartley and Eboue won't be getting near a game.

Lots of positives from the tournament. RvP, Wilshere + Ramsey (I almost feel we could do without Cesc), Frimpong, Afobe who was great yesterday, Gervinho is going straight in my fantasy team.
