Pre-season Friendlies - Summer 2023

Most goalkeepers would have got caught out with that goal, so I cant really blame Onana for that, however as I mentioned a few weeks back he is a goalie who does come forward a lot and quite far and quite readily. That may have worked fine for him in the Italian league but it is something he will need to learn to curtail a bit in the Premier League otherwise the speed and pace of the Premier League in general and the frontlines of Premier League teams will see him being caught out of position too often, I'm sure Ten Hag will help him with that

I’ve always wondered why players don’t just attempt that more often. Surely there’s several occasions during the game when they have enough room to just boot it up?
 
Can’t wait for Newcastle second friendly in 2 days :) Eddie has some tough calls to make on who starts against Villa. On form it will be a front 3 of Gordon, Isak and Miggy.
 
Pope is looking in fine form. Some top class saves already in preseason

How do you know it’s down to his wage demands that he hasn’t moved?

Yep, couldn't agree more. I can't see him playing any sort of role at all this season. He needs to be in a team that plays a lot deeper like he does for England and where he rarely has a bad game.
 
Joelinton powers up the length of the half and finishes superbly from outside the box.

And now Barnes is on a hattrick looks dangerous every time he’s on the ball!!

Am sure he be happy going for first team football. Doesn’t seem the type to not want to play. I would be more worried about Manu asking price.
 
Would have liked to see us put out a full strength XI at least once in pre-season but Eddie has done a superb job with these 2 alternate teams. Feels weird having a squad and we've barely started.

Hopefully the 200m from winning the Sela cup is reinvested in the squad.

1-1 draw with Bilbao first team against our second string and kids for our final preseason game. Great equalizer from Pellistri at the death. Bilbao were absolute ***** though, we need to stop playing Spanish teams in preseason. Fouling consistently throughout, wrestling players to the ground. Luckily I think we avoided injuries.
