Pre-season Friendlies - Summer 2023

Barnes looks like he's going to be a great signing for Newcastle.

Would have liked to see us put out a full strength XI at least once in pre-season but Eddie has done a superb job with these 2 alternate teams. Feels weird having a squad and we've barely started.

Hopefully the 200m from winning the Sela cup is reinvested in the squad.

Only player that’s looked off in preseason is Targett. Not sure how good Livramento is at LB but we could do with a signing there.

Young Murphy looked good yesterday at RCB. This is strange as ****. Newcastle now have a decent squad and by the looks of it PL quality coming through the Academy.

Our starting line-up for our friendly tonight: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Mac Allister, Gakpo, Szoboszlai; Salah, Jota, Diaz.

I don't think that will be far off our starting line-up vs Chelsea. The only real call to make is whether it's Jones or Mac Allister at 6 and if it's Jones, the front line might change slightly with Mac Allister moving back into one of the 8 roles and Gakpo up front.

Trying to think of a Liverpool player that's made dribbling past defenders look so easily, perhaps Suarez but he was more brute force and it never looked as silky as Messi.
