*** Pre-season Friendlies Thread ***

Good work out, probably get more out of a game like that than a 7-0 thrashing. Same problems as last season apparent again though; when Rooney and Nani have shockers we lack goals, need to get RVP signed asap :p

Not that I saw, everything he put in was way overhit (although there was one that caused a problem not because there was anyone even close to getting on the end of it but because it bounced right in front of the keeper)

Will be interesting to see how they get on against Barca next....

City starting line-up: Pantilimon, Lescott, Nasri, Santa Cruz, Boyata, Clichy, Milner, McGivern, Suarez, Evans, Dzeko.
Shocked not to see all of the Euro lads as they could have done with playing a game at least before the CS.

Yet again we are going with the 3-5-2 so i wonder if this is what we are moving to next season.

Everton were absolutely pathetic tonight in a 2-0 loss to Blackpool - AT HOME.

I feel sorry for whoever went there and watched that garbage - I got a funny feeling that this season is going to be bad.

Blackpool are an odd team, playoff final last season despite (in all best efforts) being a bit rubbish...

I wouldn't be surprised if you got caught out by Holloway's nonsense "chuck everyone forward all the time" move which meant you didn't hold the ball or hit them back on the break.

Wouldn't worry too much, not too many teams play like that because they know it leaks goals and can go horribly wrong (though as we proved last season it can go horribly wrong for a visiting team too), just hope it's a decent learning exercise for Everton.

I think Everton are going to have a good season, Pienaar, Fellaini and Jelavic look all the makings to be a very good attacking front 3 (certainly did us enough damage last season)

Team news for tonights big game.

Ins and outs: Patrice Evra has rejoined the squad after missing the Oslo stalemate with Robbie Brady and Scott Wootton also added to the party but Phil Jones is an absentee. Barca are expected to be at full strength with David Villa close to a return and Jordi Alba in contention for a debut. Carles Puyol, Xavi and Lionel Messi all featured in the friendly with PSG.

Good to hear Villa is close to a return.

Interested to see how Barca play with Alaba and Alves on the same team. Puyol and Pique are going to be screwed.

Manchester United vs Barcelona teams:

MUFC - De Gea; Valencia, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Nani, Anderson, Scholes, Young, Rooney & Welbeck

FCB - Valdes; Alves, Puyol, Alexis, Iniesta, Messi, Mascherano, Busquets, Adriano, Tello & Sergi Roberto

Oh dear. :p

Two strong teams those, stronger than either side put out in last summers pre season game, Barca obviously out for revenge :p

My god we're going to be destroyed.

But hey we don't need a midfielder. Not even Kagawa gets a start

and yet again we don't have enough defenders to field four :(

Apart from Valencia at RB and no Carrick is that not as strong a side as we could field?

Until RVP signs of course :p

Good a good feeling about this game; going to enjoy the 15 or so minutes it lasts.

Damn this coverage is putting me in a bad mood. Each refresh comes with that damned olympics chill out song and the commentators are american and call it soccer.
