Predator: Badlands

Probably will see this one. Get new cinema tickets in December and I don't think there's anything else more appealing right now I can see

It's the lack of UK and Europe certification that seems weird. It's only 2 weeks from release!

I suspect they may have been late at submitting it (it would not be the first time vfx have been pushed close to release), in which case the bbfc etc will likely rate it as soon as they have the finished thing. However the bbfc are also known to run late with classifications at times. I've known dvd releases get pushed back because the bbfc failed to give a rating in time for the discs and packaging to be printed (a day or two of delay can result in 4+ weeks if the print window is lost).
Looking at the bbfc site they had several "recent decisions" that look like they were made a week or so before release.

My guess is it'll either be a 12, or 15 given the USA rating and that most/all of the other predator films are currently 15.

I booked to watch it in IMAX next week already, the subtitles look quite "basic" so hopefully if they are in Spanish i'll still get the gist of it!

(Still no Spain age classification, but it seems to be 12A in UK)

I booked for 3 of us to see it next week in imax 3d, imax because the screen is much better at our local, and 3d because they had 4 imax showings on Friday and that was the time that my brother in law could make it.

Is there no English audio available or is it quite common to have it dubbed over there?

Imax booked Friday too. 3 of us. No 3D but can't wait.

In the original language showings it's English audio and Spanish subtitles. However, in a few films, where there's built in subtitles, they sometimes only show the Spanish subtitles and not the original English language ones as well. In most films it would only be a few lines and you could fill them in. For example in the recent Superman movie they only showed the Spanish subtitles for the foreign language spoken by the ruler of the nefarious bad guy country. Thankfully it was only a few lines.

Watching it tonight.
I'm not expecting much as long as it's fun and "good" I'm good :p

I'm worried if it flirts with alien earth concepts

Good initial reactions from one of my main YT reviewer.

@rp2000 think there may be quite a few subtitles for the non englishing speaking parts.

I’ve just come back from watching it.

First off, is this not considered a blockbuster franchise anymore? First showing was at 1 with my local Cineworld, I was thinking it would be on earlier than that when I booked the day off!

It started and popped up with 12a certificate and I instantly worried. But I have to admit I really quite enjoyed it, it’s a completely different take on a predator film, not even close to any of the previous films. I kept thinking monster hunter tbh.

I was worried the humour might distract, but it worked, the interaction between the Predator and Thia was excellent.

Overall I enjoyed it, I suspect once I reflect a bit I’ll find more negatives but currently 8/10 for me.

Just got back from watching it with my brother and inlaw, all 3 of us liked it.
As my brother said, with one simple change it would have been a 15*, but the story was such that it made sense for it to be how it was.

Brother in law pointed out, it's very much like some of the best Dark Horse predator comics.
At first reflection everything that happened in it makes some sense given the existing predator lore, and practical reasons in universe

*Possible spoilers.
All the characters were non human, either aliens or synths, replace the synths with humans and have blood shown instead of the milk and it would have been a 15 at least.
Having the WY expidition as all synths makes a lot of sense given even the predators consider it a death world, and with no humans there was no blood/human guts to raise the rating (although a fair bit of synth guts)

I'll probably go and watch this soon. I very much enjoyed the original, so can't wait to see this. I was too late booking it for this weekend though, as all the decent seats are gone (as expected!).

A Predator film that is PG13...okayyyy

Yeah Stafford Odeon is showing it as a 12A.

I remember us 12 year olds would watch the 18-rated Predator at my house or at mates houses and the parents had no problem us watching it, along with Alien, Terminator, Robocop etc.

It's gone the opposite way round, in that us adults want to watch a new Predator film but it's now only a 12 :p
