Previous owners

I'd be wondering why it's had so many owners, yes.

Can't see a run of the mill car needing 6 owners in 6 years, however if it were something more exotic then possibly.

Yup, not interested in pass-the-parcel style cars. I actively seek out 1 owner cars. I'm aware that some 5 owner cars are minters and some 1 owner cars are nails but it's a strategy that's proved succesful so far.

I've never been too fussed about # owners... but then I've usually only kept my cars for 3-6 months... yet that many on such a relatively new car would make me think twice.

Do dealers count as owners on the V5? So say it was part-ex'd it will have an extra owner that wasn't really driving it?

No.

Unless one of those silly private fake "dealers" (read: traders) who take ownership of the vehicle before passing it on (very rare).

That's why you fill out a different section of the V5 when handing a car over to a dealer.

You can, however, occur an extra "owner" when you change the address on a V5 if you don't know how to fill the paperwork out. If you sign the "new keeper" section, they'll add an extra keeper to the record.

last owner aquired vehicle on 6th feb 2010. Hm, its a long way to go to go and see it so i am just working out whether i should bother or not.

2.5 years of ownership is a decent amount of time, IMO - that wouldn't worry me. I've never owned a car for that long and sold on without issues. The only shed I bought that did have issues, went on ebay with a full list of the known problems for £200 haha.

If it's a long way to go, I'd be asking a lot of questions before making the trek.

What's the car? Is it really that hard to get one in similar spec for similar money nearer to you?

It is a Mk2 Octavia VRS, well spec'd ( well the spec i want anyway) and yes they are a bit few and far between for the 5.5-6.5k mark.
