Previous owners

I don’t know why people even give the amount of owners the slightest bit of consideration. There is absolutely no way of gauging anything from that information.

The mothers old 55 plate Renault Megane with 3 previous owners and 30k miles and 3 years old at the time would say different. A complete utter lemon that needed burning.

Luckily enough she sold it on to the next unlucky owner (her niece for £500).

My wifes car was registered on Jan 2005 and we bought it in November 2008, it had 4 previous owners. Only had to change the thermostat so far in the 50k miles she has done since.

Obviously not the norm, perhaps we were lucky.

Really? I mean doesn;t it cross your mind that a car which might have changed hands less than a year apart might be a problem car with each owner passing it on to the next to recoup some of their money? I know I have bought cars which has been lemons and passed them on rapidly.

My average time for keeping a newish car is 2 to 3 years. Yes, you get the odd person who has to sell cause they were made redundant, having a baby etc. but not loads of them one after another.

I know I would rather buy from one onwer who has had it since new and looked after it.

I once bought a 6 year Jeep Grand Cherokee (petrol) from an old guy who had it from new. He had every receipt, MOT, LPG conversion cost and better than that he had only done £30k in it (it was a 3rd car on an estate)

Having tested a few VRS i imagine the original owners bought it thinking it was a sporty type car and got bored of it pretty quickly. The other thing i found with them is that the few i looked at had all been company cars new, odd choice and wonder if they were got rid of quick due to bic and fuel.

Didn't use to care, mine had 7.

Though it's only a cheap 'Bcos Racecar' so I wasn't really bothered.

In teh future when buying a motor worth serious money then I will care, but it's a whole host of factors that matter, not just owner numbers.

Thank you for your input guys. I bought it today. Saw, it and drove it for a good 30 mins and couldnt really fault it.

Has had 5 stamps in the service book, 4 from main dealers. Only blemish is a 15k gap between the 4th and 5th service. Last serviced in August 2011, 6k miles ago so the place i have bought it from are going to give it a full service before collection. No history of the cambelt being done though so the dealer is going to do that for only £200 which i thought was very reasonable.

It is in lovely condition inside and out. Hardly a mark on it. Can't wait to pick it up.

I'm going to be evil...

... cheap one at cambelt failure mileage... They bought it cheap part ex, fixed it and just charged you £200 to produce paperwork

(please ignore me, I hope you got a good deal :))

Good luck with it, hopefully it will cause you no major problems. I think I'd have probably given it a miss given the number of owners in the time period and the gap in service history. There are plenty of these about.

Maybe, who knows! I doubt it though as I brought up the whole cambelt issue . Its only done 63k, average miles for its age.

Ill be the first to admit, it was a bit of a gamble, but it is hard to find one of these with xenons, maxidot, dual zone climate, 18 inch alloys e.t.c in a colour i wanted (Red or Blue).

One reassuring thing about the car that makes me think that it has been looked after by the previous owner (or at least not skimped on) is that it has continental contisport 3's on it all round, as well as a brand new one on the spare.

Always better than it having wan-li's or something at the very least!

Doesn't make a difference these days, more and more cars are going through the hands of more and more people!
