Price of games is stupidly expensive

For those of us old enough, I can remember paying £10+ for top end C64 games.
Amiga games were regularly £20-£30 on release.
When you think that was 30+ years ago, Games have not really increased in price at the rate of other items.
Unless you must have it on release, wait a couple of months.

I remember some SNES and N64 games being £60 plus when they were new.

Ah yes, I've still not got over spending my life savings in the late 80's (aged about 11) on Double Dragon on my C64, which turned-out to be rubbish. It would have been about £10-12 I reckon... on cassette... jeez I'm old. :D

Don't do it full screen. Install CNCNET on top of the yuri installer then you will get on the new servers and new client interface.
They had all the cnc games as a bundle a while ago on origin for something daft like 15 quid. Wish they'd do a true successor to red alert 2, 3 felt like a cheap sequel. Back on topic, there is merit in leaving it with games as often there will be a goty version including all dlc down the line, normally cheaper than when the game first came out.

That works well with some games but depends on the game and who you're playing with, for example I tend to play , almost exclusively, co-op games with a set of friends, and my other half. Now when a game comes out which everyone is intending to co-op it doesnt do me any favours to take the stance of I'm going to wait 6-12 months for a bundle version as all that achieves is that my other half and our friends play it together and by the time I pick the game up and say lets play it they are replying "nah, we completed that 5 months ago" :)

The best thing about Yuri is there new maps available now so you can like escape zombies and there’s loads of other maps with different sets of skills required. Some of them isn’t about building the most it’s strategy to survive and stuff.

Check out all the new mod maps available on cncnet forums.

I dont get how cheap some PC gamers are, the people on these forums with high end rigs saying they wont pay this or that for the latest new game.
Its crazy that people will spend £2k on a GPU but £60 on a game is a rip off.

Ok everyone has a choice on how they spend their money and value is a personal thing but there is people on here who have spent huge money on Star Citizen ships but complain about a AAA release costs. There are some releases that are broken and that should be called out but I have no issue with the cost of games in general.

FYI if your that worried about cost, Get Gamepass for PC, you can get 3 years for less than £90, but then same people will complain about "I only buy games on steam", PC gamers can be such spoiled internet babies sometimes.

To me £60 absolutely is a rip-off for all but a few certain games. Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, and Elden Ring being the only recent ones from memory. I've not played Hogwart's Legacy, but it looked like it could be one that justifies it.
AAA's are squeezed out of publisher's rear ends in some horrific states these days. Why would I pay £60 for something like this? If it was £40 or £30, then they could maybe get away with the sloppy work.

I don't mind so much as I rarely play new AAAs, but it's poor to call people spoiled internet babies for disagreeing with the state of the modern AAA gaming landscape.

If you want to charge more, then stop urinating away comically large amounts of budget in to marketing, and start releasing good finished products.

Valid point. I agree about time, I tend to pick up games for around 20 quid, however I did splurge for the latest cod on pc (not the limited edition, and I find cod games don't normally drop). I notice some games if they flop do tend to drop in price quite quickly :p .

OP here. You know what? You lot've changed my mind. I was having a rant about the price of games. I like a rant. It is one of the pleasures of getting older.

Having read your opinions it does seem, given the amount of hours some of you spend playing a game, then sixty quid doesn't seem so bad after all. It can work out at pence per hour if it's a game you really enjoy. That is, if you do play it. Otherwise spending sixty quid on a game just to find out you get bored with it pretty quickly could certainly be a little disheartening.

Hardware costs vs game costs: Yes I spent stupid money on a 3080 ti FE (a grand) so I could do some vr sim racing. Hypocrite, Moi? :). Then I spent just under a grand on the sim rig itself. I like my tech toys. So I really shouldn't be whinging about sixty quid for a piece of software. Mind you, I don't play that much. Too tired when I get back from work and have difficulty working up the enthusiasm for an intensive session. Half an hour then I get a bit yawny, promise myself I'll have another go at the game tomorrow and then get me'sen off to bed.

And, it seems, given that some of you paid sixty for commodore and snes games back in the day sort of puts things in perspective.

Converted and feeling better about the prices now.

Kind regards,
Victor (Meldrew).

Just be 2 years behind the in crowd .

I never pay more than £10 for a game , maybe the missies buys a cd key as a birthday present. In addition to games being cheap I just bagged a used 3090 for £625 - 2 years ago the scalpers were asking crackers money for them.

Yeah it's only expensive if you must play titles on release. Smart people wait for GOTY versions etc.

You realise games are really expensive right?

For 1 whole year of you gaming on 1 single game - I can get a fishing E.A licence plus ++ licence for 3 lakes in the UK for a whole entire year!
Yea but games aren't boring(most of the time) :D . I think 60 for an sp only game with a short campaign is alit, but mp gives a lot more playability.

I remember when games that came in proper big boxes (with weighty tomes included) were being phased out and replaced with digital delivery, the companies kept saying it would make games cheaper to purchase.

Quelle surprise, they lied!
