Right, I've ordered my second HDD, its bigger and faster than my current one, so, should i install windows on to it and use it is my primary HDD, or should i just use it as my media disk?

If i use it as my primary, will getting songs, videos, pictures etc out of my current 'My Documents' be an easy or hard task? i.e. will they be locked, i remember this happening to me on a previous rig.

unless it is significantly faster or you want the to use the faster hdd and can be bothered with reinstalling everything, just use the new hdd as a media disk, to ensure easy transfer of your files it should just simply be a job of removing your account password while in your current install and then copy and pasting the files to the new hdd (in xp anyway)

I'd use the new HD considering it will be less 'worn' & might be faster.

Since new one will be empty, why not try cloning old one to it. Plug-it-in solo to test if successfully done then format old one & use it for media, backup, etc :)

how successful is cloning though? My friend did that and he just got a load of errors after about a week so was forced to do a format!

Unless he changed mobo or from IDE to SATA or faulty HD, then I don't see how errors could occur  I've cloned to new HDs many times succesfully. Remember, you can keep the files on other/older HD & see how it goes.
