Prince Phillip

A relative hit 99 last October and then passed away early December. She appeared in good health but at that age things can turn quickly. Philip will no doubt have the best medical but even that can't fight time indefinitely. Hopefully it isn't serious. I didn't even think about Charles visit breaking lockdown, rules so maybe it is more serious. At least if it is you can't argue with 99 years spent in what appears to have been decent health.

Been in hospital a few days now and staying until next week. No reason for his admittance has been released.

Could it be that he's almost one hundred years old or are we just ignoring this minor detail?

do you think we’re being told the truth about the seriousness of his health?

Perhaps naively, yes I do. That doesn't mean I'll be surprised when he passes away in the next 12 months because see the above point.

He has had a good innings let's be fair. I'm surprised he's lasted this long, everytime we see him he looks like the walking dead.
Who knows, and like posted above, none of our business. He could live a few more years yet.

If it wasn't for the royal family, we wouldn't have the crown on netflix, so I'm all for them!

Having royalty and being a republic are not mutually exclusive, we can easily have both without the hassle of untouchable parts of our government walking around. Literally the only thing keeping me from being a frothing republican is that I place sentimental value upon our collective grandmotherly figure, I hold no such sentiment for the spider or his offspring.

You genuinely believe this or is it simply you are as wise as the Earth is flat?

Yes I believe that, the so called monarchy have zero place in today's society. They do nothing but meddle for what is good for them. You only have to read the articles in the guardian about their meddling in laws.

So while the earth is not flat, your deluded if you think they are top hat Billy oh brilliant. They are not.

Considering many people from other countries visit here to see the royals and the palaces I doubt your comment that they have zero place in society.

What meddling have they caused you?

What alternative would you suggest and why?

Would you want a directly elected head of state, like America, or something else?

I'm not overly wed to the concept of the royal family and their place in the way our country is run, but I'm also not willing to advocate throwing out the baby with the bathwater given that our country generally works well.

The fact that Charles has visited risking a public backlash as most of us are banned from visiting relatives in hospital says it is more serious than some of his more recent stays. I hope he makes a swift recovery and returns home as I do everyone who is admitted to hospital but at 99 he is getting less and less likely to come home each time he goes in.

Yeah, there are two possibilities here...

Currently, visitors to hospitals are not routine, they're supposed to be in exceptional circumstances only so his visit might well be an indication that things are a tad risky right now. Bit off for them to pap him going to visit his (possibly dying) dad, he looked a bit teary-eyed in the photo I saw posted to Twitter though that could be the mask.

Other possibility is that its a more regular hospital visit and Charles visiting is just Royals being Royals - the rules bend a bit for them so the one visitor in exceptional circumstances is just granted because Royalty... obvs they're not going to take the mickey and have a group turn up.

His wiki page is interesting. Started writing to Elizabeth when he was 18 and she was 13...

Don't let twitter know!

Seems it was acceptable for that generation - IIRC there was some (Thatcher) Tory Cabinet minister who openly admitted to basically grooming his wife back in the day.

Twitter was full of rumours last night about "forthbridgedown" (the code for Phillips death) but seems it was a hoax.

Probs Gibbo and Burnsy spreading rumours again... :D

Never said they were, but Royalty does more good for the country than not.

What would you prefer? Look at the state of other countries with Prime-ministers and Presidents - France, corrupt womaniser, US, lol! Vote for the best of the worst candidates, money = votes.

Even more recently - Emmanuel Macron's wife was his teacher when he was 15 and she was 40, and she left her first husband for him!
