Just thought I would vent some rage here!

I have an HP printer/scanner/copier.

Recently, it informed me that my yellow ink was empty, so I went to No competitors! to get another one. I put it in the printer as the instructions suggested. The printer then proceeded to tell me I was out of yellow ink

I contacted HP, who said it would need a full reset, which they guided me through, at the end of which, I was still apparently out of ink.

They said it would need a service/repair, the cost of which would be more than buying a new printer. thats handy isnt it... for them!

I left it, thinking I would still be able to print in B+W.

Well, no. since then, it has decided that my other ink is now out of date and refuses to print at all until I replace it all.

Anyone else share my hate of printers?

Some time they can be a ****. Mines been out of ink for months... but still manages to print, sometimes I think it might be retarded.

Yes and no.

I used to have a Lexmark all-in-one that nearly ended up out the window on very many occasions. It was probably the worst thing I've ever owned.

I currently have a HP all-in-one, and it's about 5,000,000,000 times better than the Lexmark. I was so happy when I got it, because sometimes it'd take half an hour to get the Lexmark to work properly.

I had a Lexmark once - i worked out that itd be cheaper (and better) to buy a new Epson than replace the ink in the Lexy, so i tried to give it away. The suspicious looks i got were bizaar.

I was very honest about why i wanted rid... i just thought id try and do the right(ish) thing.

It went in the bin in the end.

I hate them with passion too, I gone through at least 5 over the last few years cos of printheads, bad drivers, bad ink etc. I just don't bother owning one anymore, I just nip down to the local internet cafe or print at uni. I do desperately want an A2 printer though I do worry about the above things.

I was very pleased with my printer yesterday.
I'd never used a printer on linux before and thought it would be a major hassle to install.
Plugged in printer. Printer icon appears in icon bar thingy.
Thats it!?!?
No pop ups asking me what printer i have or if i want to search the internet for drivers.
No asking me to insert cds.
Nothing.
It just worked.
Why did microsoft find it so hard to do that?

...ok, maybe that was more a good experience with linux rather than printers :p

WOW!

that is amazing. I could't stop laughing at how impressively correct ALL of that was, including my happy meat face :D

Glad you enjoyed it, when i first saw your post i thought it was going to have a link to the article so i thought i'd share it with you :D

I hate printers aswell. But only those stupid home ones that never work :(

And therefore, I have learnt to only use the work one instead. It's one of those big things that takes a year to warm up. Never lets me down!

I have used the same black laser for a year now. Just bought a colour laser to complement it. Inkjets always clog due to the infrequency of colour printing. Black I print a lot, so why use all 4 colours in an inkjet when you just need to print one? Answer: LASER.

Plus it has the word laser in it. Make a quantum laser printer and Id buy one!

got fed up with my HP c8180 always getting paper jams so i just brought a new Canon MP640 as i have had two HP printers now and both have been bad with paper getting stuck plus when ever i ask it to print it spends 5-10mins making all sorts of noises before it will do anything.

i've had my monochrome laser printer for 3 years now and it's still on the toner cartridge that it came with. it's always been 100% flawless and the print-quality for text is simply outstanding.

I currently have an hp sat in my office at home crap totally crap. Since the day i unwrapped it, it feeds though a blank page for every page it prints. Called hp, no sodding help at all. Reisntalled drivers, intalled on different pcs all the same. The other annoying thing is that when it runs out of a colour ink it wont printblack at all. So to get it to work again I have to go and buy another cartridge.
