Prison Architect

Contraband and tunels are not working since the last update the devs are aware , there may be a hot fix or might have to wait untill 16 .

I havent found the time to play for a while now, and yet, at the same time ive still found plenty of time to watch videos and read the forums.

Im really excited about this game, its already a lot of fun, and yet reading and listening to the dev's talking about the game you can see theres a lot of potential and features still to come to add new complexities and compromises which you'll have to factor into how you build your prisons.

Maybe i've just missed them all, but it seems like a long time since we had a game which goes back to the days of theme hospital, roller coaster tycoon, sim tower and transport tycoon (not that those are perfect examples, but a mix of devs and subject matter). Theres been SimCity, a flop in many respects, and then dross like Sim Zoo or Airport Manager (dunno if they exist) but titles which seem to exist and yet dont even come close to bothering to emulate the games we had all those years back.
Im not counting The Sims, i doubt that needs any justification ;)

Bought this in the sale, only put an hour or two into it but already quite hooked. My first prison has turned into a mess with no money and almost all prisoners and guards injured or dead O.O

Is there a way to stop a room being a room without demolishing it? Basically I want to turn a building from one room type into another.

Easy... to blank the room type just open the Room menu and use right click to select the existing area.

To change a room type, you can just open the Room menu, select a new room type and overwrite your existing definition.

this game is really fun, i'm looking forward to when it's finished, played it a good few times in varying states up till now

I'm really looking forward to this game being finished, they need to get some more people on board though really to get it moving quicker. Last time i played it (alpha 13 i think) it was too buggy to enjoy so I'm staying away until at least 2-3 more releases.

I like the idea of it, but spending so much on an aplha build of an indie game is something I can't justify :( I bought ME2 when it came out for around £19 :s

Yeah i kinda agree, its like there needs to be a system in place which allows people who will actively help with the development to get it at a discounted price, while at the same time not simply making it £10 then £20 upon completion, because people will just buy it at £10 and then wait, providing no help.
How they achieve that in an effective manner I dont know. At the same time, you're getting access to the game considerably earlier than you would if you waited for the release, and a lot of people will happily pay for that privilege.

Just wait for it to come on sale somewhere, its been half price a few times. Humble store and Steam sale, theres another steam sale not far away either (there was a leaked doc with the exact dates).
I've only had it for about a month, not the 16-18 months some people in here have been involved, but i cant recall anything happening where i thought 'F-ing alpha' or generally experienced something where i'd call it a bug which has any impact on my playing it. It isnt feature complete, but it doesnt need to be to enjoy it, and every month they add something new and you've got to figure out how to bring that into the game. Everything is there to be able to call it a solid game though.

Hi I have an acer aspire 5742 with i3 2.4 ghz and intell hd graphics and 4gb ddr3 and running windows 7 will this game run smoothly on this laptop you think ?

Thanks dean

I had a few hours on this over the last few nights, a couple of bugs tbh, guards and prisoners getting stuck in doorways, mainly whilst carrying things. The "Long Term Investment" grant timer resets when you reload a saved game, so its not easy to achieve unless you do it a at once, which is probably ~8hours+

Other than that, it seems to be coming along very nicely, the new Finances and Exports models are a great improvement imo, also the Education/Training has made it a big slower to earn money from the workshops, but is a good addition.

On steam for £6.79 at the moment.

Is it still very buggy or has it come on a lot now ??

I don't think it was ever 'very buggy' certainly not enough to put me off (played since alpha 3). Even if you don't want to play it now it's still very worth picking up at that price.

Latest update has started to add an 'end game' with prison ratings and measurements on your prisoners re-offending rate. You can now...
...fail and become a prisoner in your own prison, and if your riots go on too long the national guard will be called in who will basically gun down all your prisoners.

yeah, thats a cracking deal. I havent played PA since i got it, some time back in Feb i think, but i watch each update video and love them, i love seeing how things like this evolve, especially as what there was of the game back then was very playable, yet they've added so much more, some important thing (remote doors, entrance gates etc) and some additional features (weapons, modding, rehab & incentivised objectives etc).

It all seems so clever and well thought out, and i cant wait to see what else they add each month. Ive usually spotted they've released the new video before i get the subscription notification, i look forward to it that much.
