Private healthcare

Many are working their contracted hours in the NHS and doing private work in addition outside of those hours. I don't know how they have the energy to be honest but fair play - why not make the extra money.
That's the same in any industry, but if they aren't doing the hours in the NHS that will impact the waiting times, yes I understand some patients will go private.

I didn't say it was crazy to cancel. What I said was, all the private healthcare did was to allow them to see a consultant
and get treatment quicker. The way in which they would have been treated would have been the same all apart from the time factor.

Again its your use of language - 'all' it did was let them see a consultant quicker - tell that to someone with possible cancer on a waiting list..

It's also worth mentioning private health will often give you access to better diagnostic tests than you would get on the NHS.

That's the point it was faster, not so long winded, nothing else would have been different
Except that you can choose your consultant on private and be far more confident of better outcomes, and also not die while waiting. Even if it turns out to be nothing serious, the stress of not knowing what's going on is horrible.

Yes, it was a great experience. Plus the private hospital is nicer than the NHS one.
Pretty much like being in a hotel and being waited on! :D

It would be the same result you will see a consultant and you will get treatment nothing more. Yes I know the consequences as my father had both prostate cancer (they were not concerned about it due to his age) and asbestosis, which led to lung cancer which killed him. He couldn't have afforded it through his life at work and if he had tried to take it up later in life he wouldn't have been accepted because of it. Private healthcare is not the be all ann end all, it's an alternative for those who can afford to use it.

I pay £80 a month, it the diagnosis part which is the most important and the part which the NHS lacks.
Having this part would save you months going through the NHS system and push you straight to treatment.

The trick is private using NHS hospital wings. I call up today and I have appointment next day via NHS private.

Good point - it's worth remembering that you can see a consultant and get diagnosis via private very quickly, but then be referred back to the NHS if needed. I did exactly that when I needed a corrective procedure after a small complication which insurance wouldn't cover. I was seen by the same consultant's team in the NHS.

You are minimising some quite significant benefits - no one in their right mind would choose NHS over private treatment.

Other than better diagnostics there is also the possibility of better treatments that arent considered cost effective by the NHS.

I had a sinus op done, I was going through the NHS but, I didn't think at the time to use had medical insurance through work(BUPA) until my bosses wife pointed it out. Guess what, it was the same consultant, I think he did 2 days private. So all in all it was only the timescale that was different

Yep I had FESS for a particularly nasty infection and got deviated septum sorted as well. I would have had to wait 24 weeks for initial consultation on NHS according to the website with no guarantee I could see the person I wanted, and things could have got very grim in that time.

That's the problem with the insurance you still had to use the NHS. What would you have done if they could've refused because it was done privately, you would've have been well out of pocket, that's why you do need the NHS.

I'm not denying it but we can't all afford it, that's the point

Because it was cosmetic, insurance wouldn't cover it - I think that was fair enough really.

There still wasn't much improvement after the NHS job so I ended up paying a few hundred quid at a skin clinic in Tunbridge Wells who sorted it out for me.

Yeah I get it through my work too and was amazed at how good it was. Had some pain in the groin a while ago booked a Dr's video call on the app for 30 minuets later. Then had an ultrasound booked in for the next week just in case. Definitely wouldn't give it up.

Yes very similar experience, I had constant sinus problems and nose bleeds due to the skin getting thin inside my nose. Sinus drainage and build up of the inner part of the nose. I wasn't bad enough to need to go private but I didn't even think about it. I think the time scale for the op was something like 9-15months NHS, compared with 2 weeks on BUPA when I mentioned that I had private healthcare.

For me, getting everything done quickly meant that about two days later, was feeling better. I'm still not getting what your issue is
