Private pub

But if I have a few beers in my fridge and my mate wants them to save a trip to the shops I will sell them to him. Is that theoretically illegal if he where to be smoking while all this was happening? Also could you give the beer for 'free' and they give a 'donation' to me?

You could do what was being done at a party/rave i went to a few weeks ago. Someone selling raffle tickets and another guy with a bar. You then swap tickets for drinks ;)

Ive been in a pub where people have been smoking in this country. However it was raided by the police that night and again a little while later. They got shut down and haven't been allowed to open since.

I like to keep it informal, my mates and myself get out the smoking jackets and brandy glasses, sit by the roaring fire and talk crap for 6 hours with my mates. Nostalgic and pitiful. Next thing is to grow a handlebar moustache. One step at a time though.

How does an 18year old uni student afford to buy a pub?

future career plan :p

hands up who's been in a pub that still lets people smoke in them?

yup. Except it was a lock-in. He shut the pub at 10 and we stayed till 2. Was good :D. Managed to be in a lock in at a pub in france. Bloke was english, moved out about 5 years ago with no french ability and just a wod of cash, bought a pub and is living the life. We bet on pool games for pints. You lose you buy the other 2 pints. It was me and my mate versus the barman and his other half. Needless to say we ended up paying double :( :p

If your charging directly or indirectly for the consumption of alcohol then Customs will be very interested.

Even brewing your own to sell or trade-in-kind on a small scale (ie just one barrel) becomes a Customs mater - they are very strict on this and come down hard too.

If you had a regular party by invite only (invite list a must), then this is harder for them to point at and say it's an event where alcohol is served for money.
If you have a group, it's possible that they could circulate the 'party' to reduce the frequency. No money-transfer must be traceable so one idea is to have a gentleman's agreement (never written or disclosed) that each party is funded by the holder to a set amount (no more, no less) for a set number of people. That way you all get food/beer, no money trades hands and you don't get viewed as a 'public event'..

That's just domestic drinking.. as if you were providing party drinks. Its the traceability of the exchange of money or trade-in-kind that has to be avoided.

Then bring ure own, Ive been to a number of house parties where we didnt actually know whos house it was. It was a bring your own drinks thing but other items could be purchased

lol, i'm still amazed when i go to these. The house gets trashed one way or another, either through accidental drunk clumsiness, or because almost anyone can go it gets trashed on purpose. The last one i went to the owner (his parents were away) was wasted about 10 minutes into the night. Apparently there was about a grands worth of damage. You got to be mentally retarded to have an open party surely.

Genius!

you could call it 'The beer and Tobacco appreciation society' and if that gets busted then change it to 'The Bear and Toboggan appreciation society'.

problem solved.

The ones i went to there wasnt much to trash, im also guessing the houses were rented. The only things that could be trashed were already damaged sofas, decoration on walls (for the houseparty) DJ equipment, but the dj was behind it and im sure people wouldnt like it if the music stops and the toilet. Other rooms had big locks on and the kitchen just had drinks on the side, not much else
