Pfft! You're all rubbish!

This, is the cost for an oil service, air filter, fuel and oil filter, loan car for a day, labour and parts....Ho Hum

You....actually paid that!?

Show us the whole invoice rather than the corner.

Fwiw, last oil service on the E60 was 180, so can't see air filter and brake fluid adding that much more. Either you got owned or there is more to it.

Ok well that's more than you said as there is a fuel filter change as well, and a microfilter change which you never mentioned. Amazed they charge for a loan car though! Mine is booked for oil discs and pads on Monday no charge for loan car....

it's an estimate so I'm not sure what they reckon on labour. I'd assume 3 hours?

Microfilters are (or have been) always changed as part of an air/oil service IIRC

Replacement of the microfilter is also a part of a BMW oil service.

and even then, only make up a small % of the cost. I mean, intake silencer service? C'mon, they're going to check the intake pipe to the air filter. Ridiculous

200 quid in "environmental" charges, bit OTT!

Ask for them back and then take the filters down to the tip for free disposal.

I read it the same as Berger in the first instance, then I realised how ridiculous the line spacing is.

Ridiculous price though. Was this a quote or did you actually pay that?

I seen a beautyful white 08 320 Coupe (the one with the nice back end) for £10599, 30k, FBMWSH, 1 years T+T. Wasn't sure on spec.

Thought I would check insurance and it is cheaper than my fiesta. Ideas run the through ones head thinking I would look good in one of them, be nice and comfy, look nice on my council house drive. Swap fun for luxury.

Then I see threads like this what completely utterly put me off a BMW. Fun stays, it's cheaper!

They were, then they became seperate, then they got integrated back in. Can't remember when they became part of oil again, though.

You can probably do better by shopping around though to be fair it does sound like you are having a pretty major service on the car. Back in the days of Inspection 1/2 servicing an Oil Service pretty was just that - an oil change, microfilter change and a quick once over. But with Condition Based Servicing and everything being split out so there is no 'big service' anymore you can often find everything due at once, which you have done here.

A good price would be oil/microfilters @ £240ish, brake fliud @ £60ish, intake silencer service @ £50ish and the fuel filter at £100 with no charge for the loan car. Standard Scope what.. £30ish?

This still gives you a £480 bill but then as I said you are having pretty much everything done!

You definately gave everyone the wrong idea when you implied it basically just needed an oil change :p

Wow, that's quite a bit more than I was expecting.

Funny thing is though, you work down through the list, looking at each individual item, shrugging off the seemly minor charge in isolation and then there's the sharp intake of breath when you reach the bottom and see the total.

Aye, it all adds up - as they would say around here.

The insp2s on my car are less than that, so I'm assuming this is a pretty major service as far as your car is concerned. Your dealer certinly knows how to charge. Charging for the loan car makes me think they don't want your business. My main dealer has never tried pulling that one and my next nearest dealer is 65 odd miles away.

The main dealers in the south east charge for a loan car and don't seem at all interested in dropping the charge regardless of the work being carried out, whether you're a return customer, etc etc.

(Certainly the case for Scotthall Watford, Scotthall Borehamwood and Specialist Cars Stevenage).

Scotthall Watford even want to charge you extra for paying by credit card. Daylight robbery really given their labour charges etc. These things should be part of the cost of doing business and recovered through the cost of the services they offer, not by levying additional surcharges.

I don't believe I did. I said, brake fluid, air filter and oil change.

So, that, for anyone even remotely clued up on servicing would be:

Air Filter
Oil Filter
Oil
Brake Fluid

All that I've missed is fuel filter and micro filter (which is part of the oil service anyway). The car is booked in for an oil service and a brake fluid change. Nothing more :)

In all fairness, the car wasn't touched last year, in fact, it's last service was June 2010 when I had that oil change debacle with Woods. This service isn't booked with them though.

When you look at it like that, that's £34 a month :o

I'm positive I can get it cheaper though

Yet show an interest in one of their cars on the forecourt and they'll throw you the keys and say take as long as you like...

Although I do tend to get my cars serviced where I bought them from so that could make a difference.
