Well with the TDU done and dusted I'm surprised we don't have one of these!

I only caught the highlights, on 'GCN Racing' channel on YT. My first couple of tries couldn't get sound to play on the total Stage1 & 2 and couldn't find any other places to watch it, Highlights where ok so watched them. Still great coverage & commentary. Watched the last 50km of Stage 6 for Willunga hill, fantastic racing and really exciting to watch. Worth hunting down even if you don't normally watch the TDU!

Porte took the overall as Impy blew up early on the climb. Bit gutted for him as it was his to lose. Yates riding really well but Porte rides him off his wheel reeling in the breakaway, commentary split earlier if the break would even be caught. Then fantastic ride from Matt Holmes (first year with Lotto) in the breakaway kicks and gets on Portes wheel, gets half dropped, then comes over top of Porte as the climb flattens towards the line to take the stage win. Totally unexpected and fantastic to see! His interview after is pretty priceless too.

Goes without saying doesn't it?! Really interesting to see some of the battles between him, WvA and VdP. Sure hope we see some without too much dominance over the older classics specialists...

So many of them are heading towards retirement age, so would be really good for a few to get some good solid wins to finish their careers on a high with.

Yeah I loved Andorra when we went (2015?16?) snowboarding. It's about the only place I've been and seen roads (in the winter) and just thought 'I wish I had my bike here'. Didn't even think that in Gran Canaria, because the roads into the mountains felt quite rough, but thinking now of the views and how quiet it was... Perfect gravel bike territory!

Incredible acceleration, only 1 of them even tried to go with him. Love the 'It's Brexit' comment! :D

But MvDP in a class of his own. Can't say that was unexpected, especially considering the start he had and that first lap or two. It was almost decided then - he doesn't seem to fade after huge efforts like that, like any other human being!

Shame about Fuglsang's name being dragged through the mud, it always seems to be 1 of the main names cops it in the media this time of year by some leak or media digging.

LOL. Birthday shower!

WvA is now riding for Jumbo also.
Wasn't he riding in their colours last year? Could've sworn he was...

Yeah I've been catching a lot of it as we got a 50" TV in the shop now with a Eurosport subscription.
Sweet! Perfect when things are a little slow! :D

Moscon being Moscon again. Ineos look awful once more for not dealing with him
Typical Moscon, but equally hilarious to see him do something similar again. Briliant! All adds to the entertainment!

Kasper Asgreen is my new man crush. What do they feed these guys in Denmark? They're harder than nails.
Agreed. What a MACHINE! Became a fan after Flanders last year, then his TT ride in the Worlds. Nails! Still only 25 too!

He's like a friendly ghost version of traditional Tony Martin.

Expecting good things from Harry Tanfield this year. Last ride title from his training yesterday says he's off to BE ready for 'something'.

There's an image going around of Robert Gesink TT'ing on his rig, in full aero position, on a Tacx Magnum (treadmill!). On Zwift. Actually going up an incline on the extensions. Awesome/impressive!

Utterly shocked to hear about it. So, so young! (I'm 40 this year!). Really really liked him as he always came across so honest and a really nice guy in all interviews.

Says he died at home with his family in Andorra - for the time he spent away from them that's at least some consolation to take.

p.s. they have turned around and said that MSR will be going ahead. The organisers that is. I still feel that local authority/gov may turn around and overrule them on that though!

Confidis & FDJ still being held in UAE after far as I can tell, some riders have tested positive for CV so really think that'll shake some realisation into things with the UCI/Organisers.

No matter what they say - Fans is one thing, teams and actual riders coming down with it is something quite different!

Not sure if anyone has been watching the Tour Recyled on ITV4 in the evenings, it fills the big cycling void in my life currently, funny to watch and hear the praise given to Bernal. Forgot how good Kwiato was on this edition as a support rider too.
Is that still on catch-up? I need something...

Good shout with Redbull too but need some way to stream that to TV/play on smartTV.

Thanks for mentioning this, revisiting the 2018 TDF now with it. Crazy to think how much of it I actually remember watching! Really looking forward to getting later in the race as I think I missed some of the later stages the first time around. There's a little 30s introduction from G before each stage which was obviously done at the time. Just a shame they hadn't got him to add a lot more commentary to it afterwards, would have been fun!

Also a shame there's not older other re-runs of Tours/others on there, or did I miss a bunch? I really only started watching every stage of the Tour in 2015/16, then maybe only some highlights for 13/14. Would be good to see some of the earlier stuff, and I don't mean re-runs of the 70's and 80's or the Armstrong era, there's been a lot of clean good racing since then. Sky early days and even pre-sky is what I'm after. Cav at HTC etc. I've never been able to really hunt much of it down apart from very brief 5 minute highlights or badly done Youtube. 45min/1 hour long TV broadcasts are what I'm after to get more of a feel of the racing and get to know some teams and riders better that I otherwise missed.

Has anyone signed up for the GCN Race Pass?

https://racetv.globalcyclingnetwork.com/

Coverage schedule for the UK is:

https://www.playsportsnetwork.com/what-can-i-watch/race-pass-schedule-united-kingdom/

£20 for the first year until 12th August, so cheaper than Eurosport Player. Seems to be app-only though, so watching on a TV looks to involve casting from your phone/tablet.
Just wondering if it's worth it as now my Eurosport app sub has finished. What do we think?

I'd hate to miss the Dauphine and all of the TDF after only really having YT to view, but if TDF is cancelled (along with everything else) then that's £20 wasted.

Can you only use their app, or does it give you access to 'private' stuff on YT (so can play from SmartTV without streaming from mobile)?

Fiver on Kwiato for tomorrow.
LOVE Strade. Cannot wait!!
Where can I watch Strade? Eurosport catch up? Or is it on GCN?

Ventoux today.
Which was race this?

rolling thunderstorms passing by.
How right you where... :D:D:D

https://twitter.com/TourDeJose/status/1293950240765214725/photo/1 Tim DC's back. Damn!

https://twitter.com/phmauduit/status/1293939622377132032 FDJ team car DS footage of a group including Sagan riding through it and Dan Martin who comes to a stop because of it (then continues).

Other riders caught up in the storm while they were still riding included Tony Martin (Jumbo-Visma), who sought shelter under a fan's rubber raft, Luis León Sánchez (Astana), and Jérôme Cousin (Total Direct Énergie), who finished 14 minutes after the time limit haven taken shelter further down the climb.

And sounds like the podium was caught short as the roof collapsed on Bernal!:D

If I wanted to 'dip my toe in' so to speak, is there a YouTube channel that has the highlights of all the big races?
ITV4 catch-up app has stuff but it's only there a short time. A week or so.

'The Tour Revisited' from Thomas' win in 2015 just finished, but unsure if another one will follow? Probably not?

The highlights of the dauphine are on there. Can't think of the other guys name commenting but with David Milliar (ex amazing British rider) they're a great combo and some great insights from David too which can really help you to understand what's going on and why certain things are happening. Even great insights when you do and he's got a good eye for catching things happening on the edge of camera or will say he spots things you don't see on screen. Although he does get riders names wrong sometimes!

Ag2R signed Jungels now.
Next year they will have GvA, Naesen and Jungels. Total focus shift from GC as per previous years as Bardet moves on.
With Naesen x2 and they also took on Harry Tanfield as a TT'er but also aiming him at the classics. Will be a good team to watch I think but I am a fan of Naesen & Jungels.

No froome or Thomas at le tour. Didn't think both would ever be dropped but obviously the numbers aren't there for either. Still looks a strong lineup for ineos looking at the form of the guys who have been picked.
Have to agree. I like Sivakov and Bernal but neither of them have much 'character' for me yet, not like G and Froome.

I can see why Froome was dropped, to be fair he's done well considering what he came back from and the huge reduction in racing as we all know the more he races the better he seems to get. But quite gutted about G, not just because he's a Welshman, but he was looking ok in the Dauphine, riding better than Froome much of the time and I think the two youngsters would benefit from a bit of an experienced guy up there with them. Kwait is there and can perform that role, particularly how well he is riding, but still feel like he's one of the troops rather than a genuine road captain. I know Rowe normally is captain, but he's never there in the high mountains... Maybe Castroviejo? He's a phenominal rider, but did seem to be struggling a little for form like Froome.

I'm not surprised they aren't going after the Dauphine but it is very odd to see that team going with one British guy.
Along with the kit and sponsor change for that stupid big car I honestly just cannot feel the same about that team for this tour. They really have lost all form of identity to what we are used to I feel.

Jumbo have simply stepped up to replace them as the cyborg super team. I place myself firmly in camp Pinot for the tour. The thought of a Frenchman in yellow, attacking everything, pulling faces and thrashing his bike about out the saddle up the alps just fills me with joy. We need that this year.
Have to agree. I quite like Ineos as a team, but once you take Froome & G out, giving Bernal and Sivakov leadership I dunno, I do feel like they miss something. Especially if they're attempting the usual Ineos/Sky tactics...

JV are too strong for that this year and the Dauphine was a good example of their own tactic used against them by a stronger team with better tactics. Really a taste of their own medicine. I wonder how long until the French are boo'ing JV from the roadside on the TDF... Probably won't as they don't have any British riders. Talk about bearing a grudge. And to think we saved them from speaking German.

Pinot has got something to prove, he's great to watch but always seems to come unstuck on a 3 week GT. He has the same luck as Froome/G, ie rubbish. Either crashes or has a bad day or 3 when it really matters. Alaphilippe is still my favourite french rider by far, I think he has to be the best thing to happen in French cycling the last couple of years? Would be really good to see him able to compete in the high mountains and into that 3rd week as he does seem to be making the change from a fantastic 1 day into more of a multi-stage GT contender well. Bardet had so much promise (still does) but never quite on that same levels as most of the GT winners when getting into that 3rd week. I do like him though, comes across as a very genuine and modest guy.

One to watch out for could be Richie Porte, with Ellisonde now there he has got a very solid team around him. Would be fantastic to see, but equally don't think they can complete with JV.

Dowsett running some fancy kit on that bike, looks like carbon spoked (tri maybe) disc braked front canyon job not Factor of his supplying sponsor...huge front chain ring and rear jockey wheels . And some wierd spaceship helmet
Didn't see it, so still want a link to pictures or someone investigating all the fancy kit! ;) :D

And la course didn't disappoint. Good close finish, course wasn't amazing with so much flat at the end but was a good split early to leave the strongest there.
It was an amazing race, watched the long 2.5 hour stream from ITV and was glad I did, just for seeing those climb efforts from van vluten, absolutely incredible to see. Great finish too, but dang that was a close one! Edge of seat stuff! :D

I know they had technical issues and it is a tough job to talk solo for hours on end but someone please get Carlton Kirby an HD screen to watch on, he misses so many details and hence gets all sorts of things wrong.
Part of me is glad I don't have Eurosport this time, I'm really enjoying ITV's coverage although have only watched Highlights to get all caught up. Fantastic racing really and everything is so up in the air with the way Alaphillipe and Lotto have been riding. Great to see so many young riders really showing their stuff too!

Are the French a bit well thick, well the cyclists anyway. None of them see to be able to wear a mask and keep it on their face in any way shape or form...
Haha, Alaphillipe is rubbish with a mask isn't he! Although think it's pretty brutal to throw a mask on those guys within minutes of finishing a tough stage and then pointing cameras and interviews at them. Should be some ruling about riders having ~5-10 minutes rest before interviews!

Although seeing Ala that emotional at a finish is just what we watching cycling for, pure class of his own, then so absolutely drained and emotional it's just so raw.

Dull dull dull, awesome. My summary of today's finish. That sprint was utter perfection of surfing the wheels.
That closing speed from Ewan? Absolutely insane how they can be travelling at that speed , yet he can still kick and accelerate to pass them that fast. Wow. Wanna see the power (+cadence) file for that one! ;) :D

inb4 all the Brits moaning about Jumbo Visma making the Tour boring
/signed

Although Kuss is a joy to watch, quality rider and future GT contender for sure, but Rojlic is in a class of his own at the moment... Bear in mind I'm 2 stages behind lol

And like that pinot breaks all our hearts.
Haha I'm not a huge fan but it was pretty tough to see him crack so soon. Also not quite sure why the team had instructions to all ride in with him, could have been good to see some of them going for the stage win. Gaudu, Kung, Reichenbach, all are riding well.

Interesting day, pogacjar showing he's the real deal, and probably rhe most dangerous man in the race if he can back it up tomorrow.
Proving it time and again! Really good to see, lets just hope he's still there the 3rd week.

Bardet is going well as the now unexpected challenger from France.
Good to see him finding his legs, just as Ala and Pinot pop!

@GSVBagpuss - Hirschi is solid. He won U23 worlds at Innsbruck with a superb attack on the descent!
Good call, was trying to recall where I remembered him from! Gutted for him as what a ride. Shame he didn't ease sooner for them to catch and he might have had more in that sprint.

Bora must be getting pretty peeved at working their arses off for Sagan only for him to flop in the sprints. Green will be more interesting than yellow this year!
It's good to see them actually doing something rather than concentrating on sprints too, maybe it's taken Sagan to have an off-TDF for that. Green jersey competition has been great to watch, especially the fact it's continued all the way through is really good to see. Polka dot has been quite disappointing though! Thought Cosnefois (or however you spell his name) had it nailed but he obviously utterly gassed himself early doing so and couldn't even stay in the race!? (think he's abandoned? Wasn't mentioned in highlights or I missed it).

Apparently he had bleeding on the brain as well. Amazed he even finished the stage.
Amazing and scary he did. Does beg the question about any medical advisors/observers as it was pretty obvious the way he flopped afterwards after being stood there was something wrong with him. Fairly sure his DS and team would have noticed afterwards and later in the race too with a concussion/worse? Thankfully has highlighted the need for a concussion protocol which they seem to have been quite quick to implement. Crazy they didn't have something in place already!?

Haha haha poor Ineos.

Love it.
You'll be saying the same about JV next year? Or always be a Sky hater? ;)

I hope Kwiato gets released now to chase stages
:D:D:D

Having so many guys so close is interesting with that TT at the end.
It's going to be awesome, but then equally after a race like that, the fact it comes down to differences in the TT makes me feel sorry for those riders like Lopez.

but kudos to Landa for atleast trying something
Yeah it was good to see and he was looking strong... Then just seemed to fall off the pace pretty fast. Shame really. Also quite surprised they'd been able to get 2 riders up the road as Landa has been riding quite well this last week. Thought it would have been fairly obvious he'd try something. Disappointed in him really and the whole team considering the riders they have they've been pretty quiet the whole race...

deserved win for kwiato, crazy he's not won a gt stage before but he's always been supporting someone.
Amazing to see and the pictures of him and Carapaz are great, just shows the emotion and how much it meant to him/them both! The way they've both ridden, especially Carapaz it seems crazy how low on GC they are, as sure some of the early talk was Carapaz being #2 leader...

Absolutely incredible. What a turnaround I did not expect to see that happen. Probably the best time trial you'll ever see with all that up for grabs. The look of jumbo guys. Roglic didn't go for the kill when he had the opportunities but can only say that in hindsight.
Agreed, totally unexpected amazing ride (also unexpected poor ride from Rojlic). Incredible legs from Pogacar the whole race really. Not quite sure why JV hadn't worked on isolating him more in the 2nd week as even though he was the 'unknown' rider without much support, he still did seem one of the strongest. Maybe they wrongly expected him to blow up or have a bad day. To me they seemed almost blinkered into their tactics which where aimed at the other strong teams - rather than anything aimed at a specific solo rider. But equally who could have blamed them, they'd gone to the Tour geared up to compete against Ineos and did well in that respect, even before Bernal got dropped they looked to have them pegged on the back foot.

But who knows, if maybe Carapaz was higher placed on GC before Bernal dropped, if Pinot hadn't crashed and if Alaphillipe had good legs the 3rd week things would have been more of the 'GC team' battle that they where geared up for, than anything else... And Pogacar would have still won it! ;) :D

Also really pleased for Richie Port, with all the bad luck he has had, to be on the podium at last is awesome
Agreed, fantastic to see and well overdue/deserved. He really has had some rubbish luck his career.

Stunning tbh.

GOAT in the making.

Things I have also learnt over this tour is Wiggins is a crap presenter and generally gets on my wick :)
He's good for some anecdotes and 'inside the peloton' type stuff but I don't really rate him as a presenter. Like you - I found he gets annoying very quickly!

I was pleasantly surprised on how good the ITV coverage was and the presenting has been great, Ned Boulting has been great this year and David Millar is always fantastic. They work well together. Not sure I'm a huge fan of Chris Boardman, but he's not as annoying as Sean Kelly and some quite good out-segments with him discussing other things 'cycling' which have been great I guess rather than just complete coverage and nothing else. Some 'dumbed down' bits about modern bike tech for the masses. Pete Kennaugh has been good, Gary Imlach is pretty much second to non for a highlight show. The only 1 of them I don't overly like is Mat Rendell (older guy, he's a bit dithery) but mostly as he comes across as more of a journalist and slimey at times, than a commentator (which he is). Still some good bits and off-hand comments/questions kinda prove why he's there.

Then because ITV with their catchup app had full coverage as well as the Highlights meant I could dip in and out of some of the best stages when I had the time to watch more than an hour. So I didn't feel the need to go for the GCN sub. Shame the ITV team don't do the whole Pro calendar really, as it'll only be a matter of time until Sean Kelly sends me bonkers in the Classics. I give it maybe 45 minutes of the first race.

BBC2 has it from 12:00 and on the red button from 8:35.
Does it have the TT too? Full race & highlights of both or just full?

Makes you wonder if Eurosport are doing it to try to get more people to buy the GCN race pass, given the amount of mentions it got during the Tour.
Haha missed that, but then I was watching the BBC ones not ES. Kinda crazy that ES allowed mentions of a competitor?! Not like they get mentioned at all...

Watch the last 45km.
Thanks

Ned Boulting read an extract from a french journalist about Alaphillipe on his podcast on Sunday, well worth a listen to hear a bit more about his cycling career progression and how he got where he is now.
Got a link to it? Podcasts is something I've not really got into and maybe I should...

Proper horrible weather! Flying out to Sicily tomorrow to watch the Giro, watch out for me I'll be dressed as Wheres Wally for TT and in the last few K of the Etna stage on Monday!
Have a great trip!

Great, thanks!

Pretty sure GCN and Eurosport are working in partnership here, GCN seem to be piggybacking off Eurosport’s TV rights and Eurosport have been using GCN commentary for some races. I’d guess cycling will disappear off Eurosport player at some point to force people on to Race Pass.

Edit: Eurosport’s parent company actually has a controlling stake in GCN, so that makes sense.
Good to know and well spotted. I had thought the same last year when some of the GCN guys ended up doing some of the 'extras' around the races and even some of the interviews. Then Matt Stevens did a bunch of great commentary too (before then leaving GCN).

Seen the duck POC Tempors though?
The kit is horrendous. Like over the top try hard horrendous. But the ducky TT helmets are amazing.

TT nerds @One More Solo , @SoliD , @Berger - POC Tempor coming back into prod off the back of this. You can order on the POC site now.
Kit is good/different and not that unexpected for them to do something different. Quite like the idea they changed it so not to get confused with the pink jersey, but than again any excuse to get some publicity... Bikes look amazing if I'm honest, much better than the kit: https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/ef...nondale-race-bikes-ahead-of-the-giro-ditalia/

Duck POC Tempors - https://www.cyclingweekly.com/news/...me-trial-helmet-that-looks-like-a-duck-471345

Was quite surprised to see Dowsett riding one in the Worlds (at least, I think it was one?! Had different vents to the ones listed on the POC site...)

You can tell he means business because he takes his arm warmers off :p
What a finish. Just puts his head down, no glances, gets his cadence in that rhythm and smashes it. Doesn't care if anyone follows or taper/change his effort. So focussed. I've not seen the rest of BBT but what a finish in that video - what we love of VDP and just in a league of his own!

Should be DQ completely from the results. Justice was served on the finishing line for his dangerous riding.
This the Giro? Stage 2 at a guess? I've not watched it yet but did have a weak moment last night and bought myself Race Pass (month sub), before then watching the G documentary on BBC/ITV 'The Road Will Decide'. Quite good if you've not caught already. Not much in there for many in here, but well worth pointing new Cycling watchers towards as gives some real insights into various things.
