Pro Cycling Discussion 2021

Good last 50k that, just a slow attritional attack to the death. Impressive bloody sprint from pogacar, shame Woods couldn't do more he looked the strongest but finish just did him no fsvours.

Funny old end to yesterday's romandie stage. Thoss conditions looked horrendous, so many riders struggling to do anything with their hands, then to see Thomas fall off after losing his hand grip! Woods is in some good form atm and deserves the win, makes the tt a bit more interesting today now at least.

I love how that Romadie stage was OK to ride but supertucking is lethal and has to banned.
Pro cycling is mental.

I’d be a bit upset if I was Marc Soler.

Won a stage in cracking style. Beats Ganna and Dennis in the TT.

Missed third on GC by 1 second.

Just a casual 590 Watts for ganna today! Gc race is nice and close luckily, with no one losing major time! Almeida and evenepoel the best performances today for me

Fair play to hayter in tour of algarve, went down, looked calm and collected got back on and extended his lead. Probably could have won if he didn't go down.

Not often you see a rider being put into the barriers by their teammate! Dunno how Gaviria managed to stay upright today! no idea where Ewan was. but greatwin by Merlier, showing his class again. Groenewegen looks as expected slightly short of that power. Looked like those bonus seconds are being clawed upon preciously already!

Gaviria’s save was something else. Bet his teammate is a very relieved man.

Position was everything in that sprint and Ewan’s was terrible, but I’m not convinced he’d beat Merlier in a drag race at the moment. The uphill finishes/lumpier stages like tomorrow might level things a bit.

Gaviria situ not resulting in total carnage is complete evidence of how much safer those barriers are. They need to use that as key example as to why they should be the norm now in finales of pro races.

Yon Portuguese lad in final stage of Algarve yesterday was superb. That final climb was like the end of a 2/3/4 here in the UK, it was awesome haha.

That finish on Algarve was brilliant, good to see the underdogs win every now and then!

Not road cycling, but guessing most people saw Pidcocks result in the MTB yesterday, started c.75th finished 5th and was leading for a bit, but looked like early exertions and his puncture on lap 4 put paid to any chance of staying up front. when is his form going to run out. Obviously lot of talk about him going for Olympic gold, but when watching yesterday GB might not necessarily have a spot and it relies upon other nations results.

Finally just seen the news that Bennett is due to leave DQS at the end of the year, bit of a surprise considering how many wins he has accomplished and still seems to be capable and not on the way down, seems a strange one, but assuming bennett wants a multi year deal which LeFevre is not wanting to give.

I think Sagan may end up at DQS. Don't ask me why. I can just see it and think it would be pretty cool.

LeFevere can’t afford him though unless he takes a massive wage cut, or Specialised step in and pays his wage like they done with Cav. DQS always leak quality riders as they can’t afford to hold onto them. It’s known Sagan’s agent has spoken to LeFevere about him though.

Sagan brings so much money through sponsorship lefevre could probably afford to top it up.

Today is why I love the giro, that win was awesome and the pure emotion at the end! Incredible.

I was a little surprised that nobody really helped Bora chase today, and that Viviani was able to hold on while Nizzolo was just dropped close to the top. I expected him to get back on the descent but I think it cut to adverts straight after.

It seemed as if they forgot about Taco until it was too late.

Maybe a few of the other teams were aggrieved at how hard Bora made the climbs trying to drop everyone else so figured they should do the rest of the work if they wanted to bring the break back? Bit petty but it's possible. I'm always surprised in cycling how often teams are willing to sacrifice their own chances to stop someone else winning, though.

Exactly how I seen and thought of it to be honest.
You are Bora. Not Jumbo or Sky. You do not set hard climb paces so here is your karma :p
It's all a bit mental isn't it?

I find it weird if you're Gaviria or Viviani. I get it's not fun blowing out of your **** trying to hold on to Bora, but they've done the work for you and dropped Merlier, Ewan etc. Surely you'd be pressuring your teammates to chase and give you a reduced bunch sprint?

van der Hoorn put his head down and rode a smart ride, but really he should have been caught had the peloton not completely dropped the ball.

all noise from the team cars/DS' no doubt. But like you say @One More Solo I never get the whole i'd rather lose than give you more of a chance of winning. Surely being up there chasing it down gives you more air time and you never know about mechanicals or bad days, they happen more often than not! Same with the reduced groups when they start playing around for 3rd/4th/5th in a classic rather than bothering to attempt to chase it down together.
