Pro Cycling Discussion 2021

Some win that for van baarle today,50k out on his own,big old group behind just not cohesive and gap crept up and up. Ineos looked strong all day, funny seeing pidcock question if he had won at the finish line! Wonder if mvdp had a bit of illness as he didn't look good at the end.

DVB is on fire right now. Such a classy rider.
I am seriously calling BS on MVDP. I think it is alllll tactics for some little race this weekend ;)
Commentary will be talking about nothing but him not looked great on Wednesday and he will unleash all of holy hell and commentary will need to pretend they're surprised.

Indeed, him bridging up last Sunday was incredible, yeah no sprint, but i'm guessing that move put a load of confidence into him.

HAHA more than likely, he will know where he wanted to go to on Wednesday and will be well recovered by Sunday! Hopefully it's as blustery as it is here today and was last Sunday!

They actually showed more of the womans race yesterday which was a surprise. Van Vleuten in that final sprint :eek:soooo strong

The merry go round that is 2021 Paris roubaix now. Officially officially postponed until first weekend in August. At least we've got flanders!

Absolutely, just reading a bit more about what they tried to do to get it going, (cutting out cobbles etc) , but it can wait! Wouldn't be the same without those sections! We'll all still be here and maybe just maybe we'll get that wet roubaix! Reckon it'll make Sunday even more of a battle now though! Everyone will be all in rather than having that eye on the week after!

Woooowww I did not expect that result! Shows that 260km and those repeat efforts throw everything out the window. What a fantastic flanders, watched from start to finish. Bissenger had a good race to last so long in that breakaway and though gva did well to come on the podium.

Fair play to asgreen, don't often cheer on dqs but he was the underdog in that situation and just stuck at it. Pidcock oddly weak on the climbs and strong on the flats, but another fantastic showing so early in his career.

How these lads have any form left from CX and their long road season already is beyond me.
Ala is the one who should be smashing them now in the form battle but was nowhere near.
Asgreen is class. And old gold helmet on the podium was awesome as well.

Seasons these days just don't exist, part and parcel of training by power and the amount of knowledge of what they can and can't take. Ala seems nowhere last few weeks, mYbe just mistimed this peak.

Mvdp has been very gracious in defeat when he has been beaten. Interesting listening to wiggins podcast about where he could go next and how many teams would love him, but a) who can afford him b) those who can would they want him there. Reckon bora could come sniffing if sagan does leave, probably be the most sensible place for him to go, but they're more stage race based last few years.

Onto basque Country, where has Adam Yates learnt to time trial from? Roglic looking supreme again, but is he peaking too early?

Interesting rumbles about Sagan to QS. Feel like he’d be a good foil for van Aert at Lotto. They’re a bit one dimensional in the Classics which makes marking/isolating him easier given he very rarely gets a supporting rider in the chase group.

I expect to see Alaphilippe in much better shape in the Ardennes.

Could be a good match for qs, big sponsors brought in and another option for wins, he's looking like he's coming back to near his best. Jumbo even if they have a couple up there you know in reality the non wva isn't going to win it.

Agreed with you on ala, would say he's more suited to those races too. Amstel seems an age away now :(:(:(:(

I don’t think so. Aero is everything. Bang him in a wind tunnel, get position sorted.

INEOS have that nailed with Ganna and Dennis, even in the past with Wiggins etc they know their stuff. Orica, not so much.

Could mcnulty be the first to fall foul of the new tuck/handlebar hold rules. Hope not. Was literally 2 to 3 seconds before he clearly remembered.

Thought we were going to see a cav win when I saw him lined up on Bennett wheel today but not to be! :( he looks much more like himself but not quite there! Hope he'll keep this upward trend going.

Basque tour was great today, last 15km or so. Just all the big names there. Pogacar looking strong and roglic despite losing looked like he could have gone off ahead if he countered at the right time. Yates looking strong again too, but not up with the two Slovenians. Rest of the race should be good as Pogacar will be going for everything, but will be good to see how much each of them have either attacking or defending that lead.

Either way it is making him a much more serious threat at the pointy end of things, if he keeps improving then he will be right up there with the ineos team working for him.

Would be great to see Cav manage one last hurrah, watching his career fizzle out has been so disappointing.

And cav has finally won, and did it with some class. That was much more like the old one, no panic, no early sprint, and some expert positioning. Saw how much it meant to him. Really hope he gets a few more.
