Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 - Official Thread

I sold PES2008 last week after buying it for £30 on release. It's such a disappointment, the way they released the game and the effort gone into the game. I imagine going multi-platform must have took some of the passion out of the development team.

PES is a real let down, the PS2 version is practically the same for about the third year running and the 360 and PS3 version don't even an online game that works. I gave it a chance but it frustrated me, the fact that I had basically bought a game that feels like it shouldn't have been released.

Next year really has to be a huge improvement. Their cycle seems to be to fine tune the game so that one part feels broken, like the keepers this year, then fix it the next year only to have another part that isn't right.

I just want to play an amazing looking PES, with a great online infrastructure, a good master league, decent presentation (the music is some of the worst I've heard in a game) and a game which feels like the developer enjoyed and is proud of making.

i played FIFA, but it still doesn't feel right to me. Maybe it's more fun online because it's not as slow paced due to more counter attacks but I'm not going to spend any more money to find out. I'd rather spend it on Uncharted and COD tbh :p

so you want them to pour loads of money into graphics, then online, then whip up a top notch master league, and then sort out the presentation??
jesus you dont ask for much!
It will have to be a gradual thing, agreed about music, its not like there isnt an abundance of decent unsigned artists etc they could have milked :|
Master League : need to semi rip off a management sim tbh! Im playing it atm but theres just not enough depth in a lot of it, maybe it'd be cool if they got cosey with a company who have given footy management sims a go, or w/e.
Graphics dont matter as far as im concerned now, they are up to an acceptable level, gameplay first tbh.
Online - well, They need to outsource this tbh. Their attempt this year was worse than last years.

Well, the online was fine after they patched it last year in PES6 for 360 so that isn't asking for a lot. Graphics might not matter to you, but when you've payed big money to buy a 360 or a PS3 and it doesn't look much different than last years PS2 game you can't help but feel a little disappointed, especially when games like Uncharted or Bioshock look ten times better.

It's one of the top selling games in Europe every year but spending money on a list of music tracks, a decent graphic designer and more developers is out of the question? They have to do it otherwise the series is going downhill. The problem is that they have far too many fans who just accept it and buy it every year.

They haven't made a significant change in any of these areas for the last 4 years. Fans have asked endlessly for things to be improved on and it's always simple tweaks. I think I'm entitled to ask for a lot, because I'm fed up spending £30-£40 on the same game every year.

I think the game is great as it is, its very quick and arcadey and offers a good change from fifa's more technical simulation type games.

I just wish they would fix online and i would probably go back to playing it more than fifa, as its more fun.

That's something I never thought I'd see - people saying that Fifa is the sim and PES is the more arcadey game. I really need to give Fifa a go to see if it's improved as much as people are saying. I didn't like the demo much though.

I think it's been heading that way for a while now, PES was always the game that you could just sit down and play having no other footy game experience whereas FIFA you had to learn the game to get used to it.
It's definately that way now with how Konami have made PES.

I'm going to try have a few games of PES this week if I get chance.

Full game is much like the demo, way too slow, unrealistic and shoddy AI, I don't see anything arcade in Pro Evo TBH, only let down by poor online.

I've always thought it the other way around. To get the best out of PES you've always had to put some time in with the game to play it properly, to learn how to get the best out of your players. I never had the problem with Fifa in all my years of playing it.

Fifa is undoubtedly the sim in comparison to PES which is about as arcade as I can remember a football game being. Fifa takes some serious time to learn the tricks and use them.

I remember flick-flacking my mates keeper and rolling it in to an open goal. Had me braggins rights for a week. The satisfaction coming from learning and pulling off accurate tricks on a stick as opposed to button presses.

I can see your point, with any game it takes time to master it, personally I think I could pick up PES and have a good chance of beating a regular on it. I don't think I could do the same with FIFA.

I recommend trying FIFA though, mate. At first I wasn't that impressed with the demo but give it time and it's great. Can't wait for FIFA street now!!

I own both FIFA and PES and allthough I think FIFA has really stepped up this year, when the lads come round for a few beers and a few games on the 360 there's only one game they want to play.

PES for me is just so much more fun in local multiplayer at least anyway. I've tried getting them to play FIFA against each other but they just get bored because it's so slow and just end up fouling each other and getting loads of players sent off.

But when I put PES on, everyone wants to win so bad for the bragging rights it's just totally different to when we play FIFA.

We can play PES leagues with 5-6 of us in for ages and ages, but after one game of FIFA everyone is bored.

I know the local multiplayer isn't the only thing you should look for in a game, but to me it's the most important factor because it's when I use my 360 the most.

Just my view anyway.

Think thats when the arcey bit comes into pratice, it is a game that you put in, easy to learn and score loads of goals etc.

Whereas FIFA requires a lot more concentration and probably isn't the best for friends who don't play the game much.

Yeah I guess.

It's probably also down to the fact that we've all been PES through and through down the years :p

I actually like FIFA, but I don't find myself wanting to play it that much and get good at it because I can thrash all my mates on it anyway.

Where as on PES it's more of a challenge as we're all of pretty equal standard.

Almost ordered this for a tenner on PC but hear its still riddled with issues online. As I can't see master league tearing me away from the Fifa manager mode I may have to wait this out even longer.

I would say if i had mates round i would prefer to play PES08, if im online just now, obviously its Fifa im playing due to lag issues. I hadnt played fifa for a while since my internet was terrible, i got back into it last night and had fantastic fun, the realism in results is spot on, i had a look at my stats, ive played about 65 games, ive won 33 and lost 32, and scored about 70 goals and conceded about 70 also.

Yeah, there's nothing better than a skillful one on one with someone over the internet on Fifa, it's the most fun I've ever had on a sports game online (and I've played plenty).

How is 5on5 online in FIFA? I've heard it doesn't lag, but is it any fun?

Are people just too greedy in most cases? I really want a football game after the disappointment of PES but the demo was too slow, if I see FIFA at the right price I might pick it up.
