Pro Evolution soccer 2011(Back to its best)

Have been playing more pro evo and i like it. The range of passing is brilliant and it feels a lot more like football than previous incarnations. The flight of the ball is good too, sometimes it'll bounce up in the air and actually come down not to far away... you know, like it does it real-life... and it doesn't just fly off into the stands whenever the ball leaves ground level - which makes for some really good in-the-box scrambles.

My biggest niggle of all is that you have a player like Lionel Messi, for example, and as soon as he's on the ball he CANNOT outpace even the most pedestrian defender. For the love of god WHY?! I don't care if they've done it so you can't just skip down the wings anymore and "that's not fair", because i'm Lionel bloody Messi, it's not supposed to be fair!

Also, you really need to use the analogue stick to get the best out of the passing, and maybe it's just me, but it's not easy to keep running in a straight-line if you want to hot step it down the wing (xbox 360 pad). So you try to double tap the R1 (or equivalent there of) button and because you are unable to stay straight it doesn't work and turning in general slows you down so you just end up doing a bit of a slow zig-zag down the line. Not that it really matters, as with reference to the 1st point, you don't really have any pace anyway.

It does feel like it takes a bit too long to get up to speed sometimes, like its clunky in getting the ball under control so you can move forwards; but maybe that's just me being impatient.

The tactical setup is good in some respects and poor in others. I've not spent a lot of time on it admittedly but the inability to quickly see who's on the bench and how good they are in their favoured positions without first manually hovering over them is strange. Why have you done that?! But in contrast it's good that you seem to be able to position your players basically where you want them and it DOES make a difference.

I'll be glad to get the full game and it can tell me exactly what all the buttons do and things because i'm playing a bit of a pro-am game at the moment as I'm just not fully equipped with all the tools. But so far i'd give it 8/10

Will have to give Fifa a go when its released too as i'm not getting much love for the 2 minute demo atm

I've played about 12 or 13 games with become a legend on the professional difficulty. You won't like this years version if you didn't like last years, i've had enough of it now.

Erm, the full backs now and again make overlaps into the opponents half, unlike last years version, but the a.i. is still totally primitive.

The amount of times during a match your teammates or opponents run the ball out of play for no reason is embarassing, the numpties most of the time don't pass the ball to you when you are in a good position, even though you are pressing the pass button in rage, the collision detection is a joke, the tempo of the game is too fast and you can't slow it down, you can increase the game speed though ...wtf, on Windows 7x64 the game speed is now slowing down for some reason making it feel sluggish just like last years version and the goalies are still poor. The feel of controlling your player just isn't right.

The end of the match player rating system is the same unrealistic rubbish as last year. There has been a few slight improvements but really doesn't matter as the major bugs are still there.

'From one poor beta to another' is now what this should be known as.

The thing is you might like it.

But personally on the first impression I really can't be bothered to play anymore.

It's just too much of a 'deja vu' from last year.

I guess it's the scenario of trying it first with a friend who has bought it or buy it from a place where you can return it if you don't like it.

Them shots make me want to buy it for pc. Although more people play on xbox hmm decision decisions.
 
Played it all last night - seems pretty great so far, so long as you tweak the strategy settings to get your players to go forward more off the ball - the lack of runs is still by far the most frustrating thing.

Just waiting for a data file mod now to get all the right transfers/kits/names
 
I've had a lot of mates who deferred to FIFA this year but have said it's wack haha...but is there anybody out there who has played both this year and can honestly say which one is better?

I really want to know cos I was so tempted to go for FIFA too :confused:
