Put my entire comp together today, new build, although i have a problem

it turned out i need a vga to dvi adapter because i cant connect my monitor to the card - fine, i bought one.

i tried to connect to onboard graphics to install windows etc, but still black. monitor just says ''Switching to power saving mode'' and thats it, cant see anything.

is it because the onboard has been disabled since the new card has been reckognised by the mobo ? or is it something else?

inside the comp everything is fine. all stuff in place and connected properly.

should i just wait for the adapter to come ?

Hi there,

May I ask what your entire spec is? It will help to figure out your issue.

Is the graphics card still installed when you are trying to use the onboard graphics? Often the motherboard disables the onboard graphics when it detects a graphics card in the main PCIe slot.

If you have removed the GPU, are both the large 20/24pin and smaller 4/8 pin power connectors installed on the motherboard (from the PSU)?

OnBoard should still work, just make sure it's all connected in fine. monitor settings and all

everything is properly connected, like i said.

cant remove anything just now, heres the spec

gtx 460
coolermaster gx550W psu
4gb ddr3 ram
amd phenom ii x2 3.2 ghz BE

I dont get why onboard doestn work

May I ask what motherboard you are using?

I think your problem is that the motherboard is disabling the integrated graphics core since it recognises that a discrete graphics card is installed. You should be able to confirm this in the manual.

If this is the case then your options are to either remove the graphics card (until you get your adapter) or wait for the adapter to arrive.

I would pull the card and on-board will then come to life.

Could be BIOS settings making primary adapter PCI-E.
Pull the card.

I think ill wait for the adapter then, sigh. 4 days to wait for delivery (Ebay) and i thought everything will be ready today...

May I ask why you don't just pull out the card and store it in the anti-static bag it came in until your adapter comes?

The board should default to use the integrated graphics when it doesn't detect a graphics card. The onboard HD 3000 CPU will more than enough for you to set up windows and do standard desktop, browsing stuff.
