Hi everyone

Currently my cpu is running at 266 x 9, 1.27 vcore and 1072mhz FSB. They are stock speeds and I would like to increase to atleast 356 x 9 for 3.2Ghz.

Now in BIOS I set the frequency to 356 and kept the multiplyer at 9. I See no options to change the vcore or FSB, I only see there values so I assume it automaticly changes? How ever when I save the changes and exit BIOS and the computer restarts. Then nothing, just the fan is on, monitor and other peripherals are off. I leave it for a while but it is still in the same state. So I then procede to press the restart button and it does nothing so I hold the on/off button for 5 seconds to force turn off.

After switching it back on it gets to the post screen and says "overclocking failed or overvolting failed please enter BIOS and revert back to default values".

So I try a different frequency, 333 but still no dice. I'v also tried updating the BIOS to the latest version but its still the same.

Specs:
Q6600 @2.4Ghz G0 stepping
ASUS P5KPL-VM mobo (updated BIOS)
4gb RAM @800Mhz
ATI 5870
80GB Intel SSD
Im using the corsair H50 as my CPU cooler so heat shouldn't be a problem and my current temps are:
CPU idle 15-25 degrees celcius.

I'v read the guide and I'm not sure if I'v missed anything so please any help is appreciated.

UPDATE: changing the frequency of the of the pci bus to 105Mhz seems to have solved the problem (google for the win). So far I have 333 x 9 and I intend to push it further. :D

From what I gather, my mobo is bad for overclocking and i'v also read that lowering the pci frequency to lower than 105mhz causes problems that I mentioned in my OP.

So far its at 338 x 9 (3.05Ghz). I could increase it slightly more but at 3.1Ghz it konks out and wont have it. I also tried increasing the pci again all the way up to 120Mhz but it still wont do 3.1Ghz.

I personally think it is not going to be due to the PCI bus, any heavyweights feel free to step in.

Have you read the sticky about overclocking?

Thought you were spose to lock pci at 100 since if you left it on auto it might fry your graphic card or something, 120 is pretty extreme.

Also have you tried 400x8 which will give you an FSB of 1600mhz, from the specs I can see on you mobo it can handle 1600.

Think you should try other routes rather than messing with PCI.

Not any expert, just priming my q6600 on the settings above, don't think you will reach 3.2 without being able to change CPU voltages.

you should be ok to reach 3.2 on stock volts

i can clock to that with the volts underclocked to 1.264v (1.275 in bios) according to cpuz
