Problem: Since adding GPU to water loop can't get screen to turn on

one thing i always do when buying a new system

buy the cheapest of all kit as a 2nd set, ie, 512mb ram, mega cheap cpu, mega cheap gfx, mega cheap motherboard

that way you've got spares to test against if you need to

Just wondering if you have the latest bios in your board that supports the E8600. It is a very new CPU and unless you had the very latest bios the microcode was probably not supported = no boot.

I think Aurhinius is on to something.

According to the Asus website, the 8600 on the Striker Extreme II was supported from Bios 1001...

You'll need another chip to flash the bios I think, although I understand some firms can flash the chip for you if it's removable, but it's probably cheaper to pick up an uber cheap Celeron or something.

Which GPU block have toy put on your card? Is it an EK block, if so, is it the version with the additional black aluminium part on the rear of the block? ( rev 2 'snail')

Have you tried it with the stock cooler back on?

Yeah, you'll need a cheapo CPU to flash the BIOS.

Lesson is probably not to sell your old CPU until you've made sure the new one works :p

Plenty of peeps over on XS are running the E8600 on bios 0901, and I needed the cash from the sale of the old chip to buy the new one, but point taken it would have been helpful to have a back up chip.

Yeah its the EK block and I also have the black aluminium backplate although I gather its optional.

Hope it is something as simple as a BIOS flash. But as said people are running this chip on earlier BIOS' over on XS.

Sticky pads?? what pads?

The ones on the VRM chips?. If its an EK block they are frankly useless and far too thin. I found they there was a gap. I would RMA the card and buy some decent stuff from a trade electrical and use that next time. Afraid Overclockers do not sell it.Try googling Rapid
