This is a new build. Asrock b450, ryzen 5 5600 nvidia 2080. I have tested the Corsair 650 PSU with a plug in tester and this showed no issues. When the start button is pressed the lcd light on the cpu cooler flashes but the computer will not post. I have checked all the connections and cant see anything wrong, has anyone any idea what has gone wrong? I have built many computers and this is the first failure I have had. Thanks in advance.

I would break it down to the basics and add components one by one.

POwer it up with just motherboard fitted. Then add graphics. Then add drives one at a time.

Ideally do this outside the case also, to rule out shorts on the motherboard tray etc.

So all the fans are running, but nothing on screen?

The B450 board might have a BIOS that's too old for the CPU, depending on how old the stock is and where you got it from.

If there's no life whatsoever (no fans, no nothing), then likely a short, a dead board or a problem with the PSU/connections to the board.

The bios should be fine, as it says for 5000 ryzen. No fans run, apart from when the button is pressed
The PSU short test is not really a sign that the PSU is OK, the only way to really check it is with a multi meter testing each pin is giving the correct voltage, the jumping the 2 pins just jumps the switch like you can jump start the motherboard with a screw driver by touching the 2 pins, do you have another PSU you can try ? as others have suggested, try breadboarding it all.

Just tried it out of the case no graphics no drives but no change. I had the same issue with a previous board that I sent back (because I thought that the board was duff), and have used a new cpu. The voltages look good on the tester (the 12+ 12- and 5v) but I know that it is under no load. But then there should be no load when first switched on.

By a process of elimination, if it isn't the board, it has to be the PSU (unless something dumb like the power switch).

Thanks, I think you must be right. I checked the switch and there is glue around it so no loose connection also the shorting the switch pins doesnt make any difference.

So how far into the boot sequence would the board get? Would the fans stay on or would it refuse to get that far? Thanks for your help

I have found the bios chip on the mb and it has a sticker on it that says 10.10. So if that is the bios version then would I need an update?

I hope its the psu as I have ordered one, and if it isnt, and the bios should work with my 5600 I havent a clue what to do
