Problem with 5970....again

hmmmmm.

download and instal 10.6 drivers but turn off any security software beforehand so that it doesn't stop the process (my kaspersky does this) and hopefully it'll instal all ok.

don't remove the old version let CCC do this.

if still no temp readings etc then RMA i'm affraid

He has been cursed with that thing. Looking at the pic he provided it is most likely rma time. From what he has said I don't 'think' a fix will sort it. 2x470 would be very nice, if my mobo could do that then that's probably what I get, too.

Is this the xfx black edition? I seem to remember not getting a temperature reading before updating the bios. It also enables fan control.
Same here, the XFX BE needs the BIOS update from the XFX web site to enable manual fan support as well as fan speed and proper temp reporting functionality.

Awesome card by the way as long as you stick to 10.5 drivers.

^^ hopefully this will sort it. just register the card at XFX and go to the support section. You'll find the updated BIOS, instructions on how to do it and a program that will turn an USB pendrive into a bootable one.

Then hopefully you'll have a fully functuional 5970

why does it always seem to be XFX once?

also can't have SLI hes got a AMD Chipset

I havent got all that under sensor all i got is the first two and they dont give any info?

That would be because you are using an out of date GPU-Z version. Get 0.4.4 here: http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1837k/GPU-Z.0.4.4.exe

This is my 3rd xfx 5970, im still tempted to stick to my guns and get another 5970 but i was thinking of getting Sapphire brand so what do you think?

Happy with my Sapphire, although I did update the vBIOS to solve some problems. Happy to walk you through the XFX flash if you like.

Although honestly a fresh install of Windows on a spare drive with the latest drivers would be wise before going that route. Should only take 30 minutes or so.

Looks fine, load it with Furmark Multi GPU and see if you get any artifacting.

Leave it running in the background and tick the log to file box.

Well i decided to change back to my old monitor which is a res of 1280x1024. So far no problems no small pink/blue dots. And no shaky screen, ive had this monitor in for about 15mins and it would be doing it by now???

Ran furmark multiGPU for 5 mins with max settings and no artifacts.

Could well be a monitor issue, are you using the same input and data cable as the previous monitor?

I'd suggest using the data cable you are using at the moment and the input you used previously. It is possible only one of the ports is faulty on the graphics card.

If one of the ports is faulty it wouldnt work on my 19".
I plugged them in the same places as my other monitor but i used the cable that came with my 19".

Ah right, when you said no I assumed it was to both questions. Would imply that the monitor is faulty, inless it is resolution related.

Try plugging the new monitor into another system.
