problem with comp

would that be as fast as it says it is a 2.4 gig, where mine is 3.0?

sorry for all the questions, but im just not sure

E8400 vs Q6600 - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/56?vs=53

But its not so clear cut as that, some games are making use of quad core CPU's and then once the Q6600 is overclocked a bit closer to 3Ghz its performance is excellent.

If you do other things like video/music editing etc then the extra cores will also be a good boost.

i changed from my old graphics card (8800gtx) to the 4870x2 to get the game i am playing better.

and all of this is because of one game where playing it bugged me as everything was on low, and if i tried to increase things the fps were just to slow. and the game is..... BF3!!

In that case the Q6600 Go, OC`ed, would be my choice.

tbh i have never overclocked a computer before and have no idea where to start. so would like something where i would not need to do so, unless it is easy?

Neither had i 8 months ago. But with a little reading and help on here, i got my E5200 at 3.4 Ghz stable. Recently bought a Q6600 and P35 board to build a budget rig for my nephew.
Have a look at the site you bought your mobo from. If it`s that well known auction site then Q6600 and E8400 are going for £70+.

yes i got the mobo from that site. what would be a good processor that you dont need to overclock?

Probably another E8400. Anything else above that i would`nt think would above 3Ghz(i may be wrong) and will cost more.:(
Have you thought of upgrading?;) Then sell of your 775 bits.:D

What would I up grade to? I'm not sure what is good or bad?

Depends on your budget. You already have OS and a new Psu.
Are your hdds/optical drive sata or ide?
The more you can reuse, the cheaper the up grade.
Will you reuse existing case?
What else besides gaming, will the pc be used for?

Open a "spec me thread" and include all the above and anything else you think will be relevent.

This for instance.:D

i have got another processor on its way to me, going down the rout of a new build was just to much ££

have got a q6600 with a bigger cooler fan than standard, so fingers crossed this will sort things out

I'm assuming that your plugging the 4/8 pin mobo connecter into the mobo?

Also have you tried without the graphics card /expansion cards installed?

I have put the new processor in but it is still the same.

So far I have changed the power supply, mobo, ram and processor.
And tried a different graphics card.
I cleared the cosmos as well.

What can I try next please.

Symptoms are. When I turn comp on, it starts up for a few seconds and then goes off. it carries on doing this.

Thanks
Ian.

On the abit ip35 pro mobo. it has code 9.0 on the display. I have tried what it said with no luck.

some more news

i tried the ocz zs 750 power supply in my dads computer to check that it was ok.

it started to boot up, and then it went off. after this it is doing the same as mine.

before this it was a fully working comp. we put his old power supply back in, and now his comp doesnt work.

by the looks of things the power supply is the problem.

where do i stand with it?

it is a brand new ocz zs 750. my dad is going to take it to a computer shop tomorrow to have them test it.

if it is faulty, what does the seller of the power supply intilted to do?, i should get a replacement, but what about my computer/dads computer that are now not working? (it was not from OC)

thanks
ian
