I'm completely stumped on this one. All of a sudden I don't seem to be able to download photos from my Canon EOS 350D any more.

When I plug my camera into my PC, windows does recognise it's there, but when I go into Lightroom and try to import photos, I just get an error dialogue saying that "No photos were found".

Also, when I try to explore the camera from explorer, it just shows a blank memory card even when I know that there is data on it :(

I flashed the camera with the latest firmware release from Canon but that has made no difference :(

Anyone got any suggestions for what I could try doing, or is it time for a new camera?

Thanks in advance :)

Might be the card?

Can you view the pictures on the camera?

Try another card and see if it does the same thing?

You can't manually take photos off the card in explorer when it's in the camera, you'll have to buy a card reader. I don't like all of the carp that comes on the Canon CDs, so I haven't installed any of it and, naturally my camera isn't recognised either. Don't see why it would suddenly stop, though - reinstall the software and go from there?

Nikons have a USB option in-camera for either 'mass storage device' (which shows the card as a disk in windows) or 'not sure...' (which shows the camera as a device-so you can change firmware, use control software etc...)

Check your settings for that kind of thing on the camera.

As an old 350D user, I can say 110% that this is untrue.

My 350D often used to play silly buggers in displaying its CF contents in Explorer. A few hammers of F5 or liberal use of the back/forward buttons usually sorted it. I assume you've done obvious stuff like that though, so unfortunately I can't help beyond suggesting you try a different USB cable.

I do have a 350D and have done for some time. I can honestly say I've never got it to work properly, but then perhaps I wasn't persistent enough  or maybe it's just my PC. It works fine on my mac, but then I'd expect it to ...

I ad this same issue with my 450D.

Turns out is was the SD card. I managed to get the photos off with a card reader and then did a low level format.

I know it doesn't help you out now, but it might ease your mind a bit that chances are it's not the camera thats busted. Unless you're secretly wishing it is the camera so you can justify buying a new one!!!

Bah if only I had the money to do so :(

Problem solved though: I spent 10 quid on a basic card reader from a well known high street retailer, it works surpsingly well :)
