Problem with GTX 570 in new build

Indeed, photon torpedoes - full spread. I know the installer does not exactly use the most encouraging terminology, but you are simply recreating the file system from scratch.

Ok windows reinstalled. Device manager says Standard VGA adapter (is this normal if no drivers are installed?)

Do I install the mobo software then move onto disk that came with graphics card?

Put the asus disk in, but be a bit more selective with what you put on.

Intel chipset INF.
SATA etc
Audio driver
USB and ethernet driver.

Then stick the latest nvidia driver on for you operating system.

Yes, just download the driver from NVIDIA and don't bother with the GFX driver on the CD.

Ok windows done. Now mobo disc down. Now downloading Nvidia drivers 280.26 I think

You should disable disk defrag so the SSD doesnt die early.

Run the windows experience index after the last drivers are installed, then play a game.

Hello its me again.

All seemed well until I installed the Nvidia drivers (280.26). When I restart my computer I lose the Video input at the windows logo.

I've disabled my card via Device Manager and can boot fine.

Any suggestions?

Can you try the GTX570 in another machine? can you beg/borrow steal another card to try in this PC? I think you can see where this is going.

Probably not to be honest. My circle of friends are mainly laptop users.
I was going to try the last Nvidia drivers before the most recent ones to see if that helped?

Thats what im thinking.

I have just this second put 280.26 on this PC and it got to the desktop after a restart, same card too (palit)

So worth returning via RMA then.

You were right about the roll back to older drivers, same problem.

Here's the update....

Managed to give the card to someone to try. Worked ok in his computer.

I took my tower into work and he looked at it. Turns out there was a little dirt on the connectors of the graphics card. Once cleaned and installed, everything works.

He ran Windows experience, got a score of 7.5 (all scored 7.8/7.9 except CPU which I hope to overclock later).

I've now installed Steam and will download a couple of demos to try the computer out.

All this trouble over a bit of dust :eek:

Happy its all working now though.

You just now need to sort the wiring out, make it nice and neat, pass the cables through the rear of the case and then bring them through the cut outs along the side of the motherboard.

Also the PSU should be facing downwards as there are vents under it, if the case is on carpet? then leave the PSU as it is.

Yes case will end up on the carpet.
