I’m having a problem, trying to install one of my new HD4870 card, and I’m having driver problems.
Un-installed the Nvidia drivers ok and driver cleaned then as well.
PC boots ok with ATI card I can go into in to safe mode OK and can use the Vista ATI driver OK but as soon as I install the ATI latest driver (hotfix) the pc boots ok, have the windows vista knightrider screen (you know the one), but as soon as it goes into Vista proper it switches the monitor off. Have tried uninstalling and re-installing the drivers have even tried installing the drivers the drivers that came with the card, but nothing help.
Anyone got any ideas? don’t really want to re-format and start again.
Thanks in-advance.

If you have enough space you could dual boot your pc with another vista set it all up then check if the problem is still there if not copy over your documents and wipe the old space.

have you tried a different driver? and are the drivers on the disc compatible with your OS??? ie 64bit if you've got Vistax64... if not then a re-install...

The hotfix drivers do have problems. My monitor also switches off when playing GRID. Not nice since all I hear is a massive KO at 200mph.

edit: okay maybe not whats happening to you. Try a different BIOS maybe?

Both cards work fine until you install the ATI drivers of that makes sense, Safe Mode, displays the desktop too.

The monitor is fine too, I have just tested it.

well before the PC loads tot eh desktop it uses a low resolution and when loading into it scales to your chosen resolution... your monitor might be goosed in some way... its worth a try... ok just read your edit...

again with the ideas... try another PCI-E slot or another DVI socket?!^^ probably wont do anything, but I like to eliminate everything before sending it back you know...

If you disable the ati driver in devce manager and re-boot the pc works fine in 1920-1200

Have you tried clocking your machines back to normal speeds? You know load the bios defaults with no overclocking of FSB, RAM or PCIE bus?
