Problem with heatsink

If you go any where near 80C you should stop what your doing cos thats when CPU's fry. Me and my mate tried to see what temp and on old athlon 64 would get up to without a heatsink before it fried and it was in the 80s.
Quite hard to fry CPU when it first starts throttling when temperature rises too high and then even shutdowns itself if rise continues...
It just took AMD much longer to include this feature into CPUs than Intel.

^sorry to hijack , but can you over do it with paste?
Yes, paste's job is to fill unevenness/voids between CPU and HS because air is extremely poor heat conductor.
Anything more than that starts to rise temperature because all pastes are much worser heat conductors than solid metal.

Right, in regards to this, received my new cooler today, trying to remove the stock heatsink and the 4 pin connector seems really hard to take out, spent a good 10 minutes trying to remove it. Shouldn't it just be a simple pull out thing? Was thinking maybe one of the metal bars snapped or something when it fell off? =\

yes but who's top say that he's switched off the saftey temp?, it's still not a good idea.

howz it coming along now? did everything fit right?

Broken stock heatsink: 55c on idle, 70-85 when loaded.
AC7 Pro: 30c on idle, 40c load.

Received the items today, AC7 cooler was open already and didn't receive the paste I ordered.

Had trouble getting in the pins, actually broke two of them getting them in bit annoyed at how they're made, so I have to lay my case so the motherboard is on the ground so it doesn't fall off again. I can forsee trouble in the future when I move it.

But yep, for now it's working with 2/4 pins in..not much else I can do.

Opened retail box when you received it?

Send it back.

Hmm, just check CPUZ and the CPU voltage spikes.
I.E: 1.184 -> 1.2 -> 1.184 -> 1.248

I don't remember this happening before?

I thought it was supposed to be stable.
