Hello all :)

When I am downloading files from anywhere, through my netgear rp614 router the speed seems limited and hardly ever gets to full speed (NTL 10Mb, so about 1.2mbps).
I tried unplugging my router and just using the NTL modem and I got 1.2mbps downloads.

I have set up port forwarding but that didn't help. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you :)

As far as I know, this is due to the WAN port on the router only being 10Mb/s rather than 100Mb/s like the LAN ports. I had the same problem. Ended up binning the router and buying a better one.

No worries.

I went and got myself a Linksys WRT54GS. I was pretty disappointed when I opened the box as it seems pretty cheap quality compared to the Netgear one. But it does the job, and I'm happy with it.

Allows wireless and wired networks, but you can disable the wireless if you don't need it.

I got an RP614v2 and works fine for me.
Are you on the latest firmware?

EDIT- But then again I only have 4MB BB so my max dload is about 450kbps. So maybe I'm not a great example :)

If you mean connect your machine to a wireless router, you'd need a wireless adapter. A wireless AP would most likely be gross overkill.
