Problems enabling and disabling Crossfire?

When i enable crossfire the system crashes and i get a BSOD, when it comesback on it does one of three things
1)immediately does the same
2)slaps a low res on and says that there is a problem with display drivers or hardware
3)sometimes it actually works (not often)

ive spent so long trying to get this working i havent even tested it (when it does work) to see if it will play a game.

ive tried both cards on their own and they appear to both be working (bought seperately the first one definately worked)

ive also re-installed vista a numebr of times, along with CCC

somebody please help me cos its doing my head in and if i cant get it to work then ive wasted £250 and my g/f will laugh at me.

ATI are useless atm, i told them that i got it to work and then disabled it and added a second monitor, removed that enabled it again (to test for reproducability) (it crashed again) and they told me that crossfire doesnt support dual monitors; i know this and thats not what i said to them lol.

the brains are normally on this forum so please help.

ok so a bit more info then,

after enabling crossfire and experiencing the BSOD, it only does reoeats the crash, only way to avoid it is to go into safe mode and disable one of the craphics cards in device manager.

1)if i disable the first in the second in the list (one with no monitor attached) and restart windows comes back on and i get an ati message saying that there is a problem with the device or no driver information can be found.

looking on device manager the first card has error code 43, the second is disabled.

2)if in safe mode i disable the first card in the list, (the one with the monitor attached) and retstart, everything is fine (no crossfire tho), i have access to ccc and res is normal etc

in device manager the first card is still disabled and the second is working fine. i can enable the first card, crossfire doesnt work though, and if i restart then im back to square one.
In addition to this "ATI T200 unified AVstream driver" (found under sound, video and game controllers) quotes error code 10 - device cannot start

I have tried swapping the cards around but i get the same situation.

Please help....

currently 7.7 but before i reinstalled vista (to see if that eliminated the problem) i had 7.7 and when that didnt work i tried upgrading to the beta's that were listed on the forum (8.40 maybe?) no go with that so i backtracked to 7.6 still no response, i also cleaned with drivercleaner in between.

go back to 7.7 cat and see what happens...7.7 works great for me on xp and vista...i wasnt to sure about which operating system to use so i have both....dual boot on 500 gig hard drive...

all i know is that 7.7 cat works great for me on both xp and vista, when i used 7.6 cat i wouldnt let me enable crossfire..(tick the box)...

it said that system would have to restart to configure croosfire,pc would restart but when you went to see if the tick was in the crossfire box it wasnt....just kept doing that every time...

it maybe a shot in the dark ,but you may wanna try 7.5.. see if that works.. you got nothing to lose...

i cant get it to uninstall now, it says the side by side package wont work

just looked at the event viewer and error code 33, is for this side by side application,

Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files\ATI\CIM\Bin64\Setup.exe". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.MFC,processorArchitecture="amd64",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50608.0" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.
