I want to make a extra partition on my 1TB drive to store some stuff while i reformat my OS.

Iv gone in to disk management and i can shirk the drive ok, as you can see on the picture iv shrunken the drive by 260GB by looking at the capacity numbers at the top, but looking at the numbers at the bottom its still saying its the full size. I right click on the drive but the option to expand the drive is greyed out. Plus there is no where saying at the bottom part that iv got any unallocated space.

Any one got any ideas how i can make a partition on this drive please. Its a Samsung F3

When you go into My Computer or Explorer and right click on the c: drive what size does it reckon it is?

It says its 673GB, so i know iv shrunken the drive but windows just dont want to see the other space.

Sorry about the size not sure why its that small, just click on it to make it bigger

Top man,

Grabbed a copy of gparted, 1st time it failed and - it let windows see the unallocated space but didnt create it for me to use, so tried using disk management to let me use it but ended up with a BSOD. An then I couldnt see the unallocated space. So I was back to square one.

But was not going to let that defeat me, so i had another go with gparted with changing a couple of the options that i was not sure of changing before and it worked admittedly iv ended up with 5GB that is still unallocated which i think i can live with out but iv got a 250GB partition now that i can back some stuff up on to & reformat my C drive

Update......Just had another BSOD & for some reason windows has LOST my 250GB partition grrrrr....

Guess il just have to try gparted again and then copy everything over & reformat straight away and hope the partition stays in place long enough to get it all done
