Problems overclocking E6300

I started off with a E6300, DS3 Rev2.0 and 2Gb Geil PC6400 ULL. I couldn't get past 384FSB, so after playing about with it, I thought it had to be the DS3.
I managed to buy a DS3 from gt_junkie in the members market and he tested the DS3 to 470FSB.
Ive just got it set up now and again, I can't get past 384FSB :(

I have set a divider of 4:5 and now have my ram at 415FSB 5-5-5-18. This is fine and works ok. It just won't do any higher than 384FSB 1:1.

Seeing as my ram will run at 415FSB on a divider, does this mean that my cpu is limiting my overclock?

Thank you :)

Hey mate!

No way!

Could be the cpu but tbh i found that i was trying to push the board too hard when i'd initially set it up and clocked it.

It actually didn't need coaxing that hard to get to 470.

What settings are you running in bios?

I can post mine when i get home as i noted the whole lot down just in case you wanted them!

From sticky in mobo section.
Clocking
1. Make sure that you have the latest chipset drivers and flash the board to the most recent bios version
2. On the main bios screen press Ctrl+F1 to open the advanced options within the menus
3. In the Advanced Bios Features Menu, Disable all of the following: CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E), CPU Thermal Monitor 2(TM2), CPU EIST Function
4. In the PC Health Status menu, set the FAN Speed Control Method to "Legacy" & FAN Speed Control Mode to "PWM" to maintain highest speed
5. Go into the MB Intelligent Tweaker (MIT) menu at the bottom of the page, set the System voltage control to "Manual"
6. These boards have a default VDIMM of 1.8v, set the VDIMM to co-ordinate with your ram. The Geil I have is specced as 2.1v so I have mine set to +0.3v
7. Set the MCH Voltage to +0.1v
8. Set the FSB Voltage to +0.1v
9. Set the VCORE to 1.45v - Please be aware that this will increase temps!
10. Set the CPU Host Clock Control to "Enable"
11. Set the System Memory Multiplier to "2x"
12. You're set to go, just increase the System bus Frequency to Overclock
13. I would reccommend that you use Intels TAT to monitor temps

That's right will,

I didn't have my FSB voltage increased and my ram was at +0.4v (2.2v) but apart from that the list looks right!

Give that a try! :)

Just to make sure, I double checked the settings. They are exactly the same as the settings in the sticky.

So... is it the CPU?

Must be mate. Feel free to post your bios settings here or email me. What voltage is the chip at and what cooling are you using?

gt

I tried all the way upto 1.5v and im using a Noctua NH-U12F. The bios settings should be fine.
A crap CPU and I had 1 week old hard drive fail on me last night as well. I lost everything on it. I am really not happy at the moment :(

Thanks for the help :)

So sorry mate! Sound's like a bit of a dog.

Someone may want it for a HTPC install so why don't you MM it along with either of your DS3's and then get a guaranteed clocker... maybe even a 6400 as i've seen some up over the past few days?

gt

Thanks for the advice. I will see if I can 'borrow' a friends E6300 out of his pc to see if his overclocks well and if it does... im keeping it lol.

Otherwise, its the members market for it :)

Have you tried leapfroggin ahead? say just jumping straight to 400MHz-FSB or higher?
Yeah i seam to remember people posting about a wall on some set ups early on where they hit a wall just under 400 and needed to increase it a bit to get over the wall

I mate

some C2D have fsb wall
what is the cpu stepping?

it´s marked in the side of box of the cpu
FPO/batch # :

He says he's currently running 4:5 though, so his RAM is currently overclocked. Taking it back to 1:1 would also run the RAM at 384MHz which would ensure the RAM wasn't the issue - I think that was RaiderX's suggestion?

I have tried running my ram 1:1 past 384FSB but it just won't boot. Thats why I tried a multiplier of 4:5 so that my ram was overclocked but the FSB was under 384.

Thanks for the help :)

yep batchs who start with an 7xxxxx are not the best clockers

I bet your cpu has fsb wall

only way to now for sure, is if you can borrow another cpu (if you have some friend with one good clocker) and try it

this thred in XS forums is interesting

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=116742

specially the last statement of the guy who is having that problem

quote
"I've been tempted to try F3, I'll have to try it tonight. Thanks for the suggestion.

Edit/Update: Was the Processor. Swapped out for an E6400 and had no problems doing 455."
