Hey everyone,

My 13" macbook pro is just coming up to a year old and recently i'd encountered a few problems with it. About 3 weeks ago i was getting random restarts, the display was tempermental and the machine was overheating. I booked a genius appointment at bluewater and (after a great deal of turmoil ) eventually got the machine back from them.

Two days later i noticed the machine would not go to sleep when the lid was closed. I therefore took the machine back again, and asked them to fix the issue.

Yesterday i got the machine back again, and obviously i'm now testing it very thoroughly to make sure nothing is wrong with it. I run windows in bootcamp and run a prime blend for about 20 minutes and frankly am concerned by what i see.

Highest temperature is 93 degrees. The Cpu idles around 55 degrees (P7550 2.26 Ghz)

Coretemp also showed that during prime only one of the cores was 100% loaded, other was around 8%.

Now this is my first mac machine, so im not sure what temps i should be getting, and im not sure if i should be hearing a fan or not ( i can't). If someone could advise me whether or not this is normal it would be greatly appreciated, as I'm about to go back to uni and i dont want this machine to fail on me.

Mine's never reached 90, the fans kick in way before 90. Download and use smcsmartcontrol and set your fan to a higher RPM and it should lower the temps a lot.
2000rpm - 70c after watching a movie on my bed - standard
4000rpm- 50c - best balanced
6000rpm- 40c - noisy though

Get yourself some Apple Care pronto, just in case things go pear shaped in a few weeks or months down the line.
I bought mine second hand and just bought Apple Care off an Ebay seller, registered it earlier this week absolutely fine. £65 well spend for 2 years peace of mind.

As already mentioned you could buy some apple care while you still have time for some peace of mind. However those temps are actually quite normal and nothing to worry about.

Urgh, I don't understand why people use this software at all.

Use MacBook Fan Control.

It dynamically adjusts the fan speed between min/max temps and fan speeds so you never have to worry about it.

Currently mine is:

1500RPM @ < 40C
6000RPM @ > 80C

Works perfectly, and has done for three years...
