Since moving to a dual-core cpu, i can't get fear to play right. First there's no sound, i tried turning EAX on and off but it made no difference, other games are fine. Also when i start the game it runs too quickly, at the start when your in the car my guy gets stuck on a bit of scenery, and the car carries on but i get left behind. I can run around and its really quick but i can't actually start the level. I've patched it and set it to use 1 core in task manager.

Anyone else had any problems?

i had that problem (the car thing) not dual core, on xp64

couldn't fix it and no-one else on here said anything regarding the problem (was patched to 1.08 i believe)

gave up in the end and installed it on my 32bit install!

You wont believe this, if you have a codec pack installed, uninstall and try, this happened to me, taking out the codec pack worked. This was posted ages ago when the demo came out, as far as i can make out, you might need to patch it also to either fix it.

Got no codec packs installed, its a fresh copy of windows. I've tried everything i can think of, reinstall, original version/latest patch, tried messing with the settings. Nothing works, also i get sound in the menus but nothing in game.

no issues with dual core for me. ive recently finished the game start to finish with the 1.08 patch and am comming towards the end of extraction point expantion now.

come to think of it, i think there may be an issue when you remove the acm core codecs with nlite, i remember there being a warning about that when you hover on the option

Indeed. I've knackered it through nlite before. The way I sorted it was reinstalling the acm codecs using add/remove hardware, choosing sound/video stuff, codecs, then 'have disk'. You then need to add lcm and adpcm (or something...I've only had two hours sleep. I'll try and find a proper link in a min) codecs after choosing an inf file in your sys32 folder.

It's quite probably that you won't have the entries in that inf file of course (after removing them with nlite), in which case you need to get an unmodified inf from either a vanilla windows cd or from another windows install.

I knew that game did have issues with certain codecs, although this does not seem to helping the original OP :(
