Right, I have a new build, win 7, new mb gpu cpu etc It wouldn't accept any of my old hard drives (1 win7, 2 xp). I reluctantly set up my old build. It accepted two of my hard drives. (1 win 7 and 1 xp)

Im having problems with my final drive. Is it possible to surf this drive like a storage device and just pull the files I need from it that way? Can I do this on my windows 7 machine?

Some background details :
The drive is old xp.
It had malware on it.
I ran a usb recovery tool, managed to scan the HDD and remove some threats.
I was also able to surf my files through here so they are all present.
However, I didn't fully scan my C drive, just my hidden startup objects.
Now, im having some stupid issues.
Firstly, it would boot up to my xp login page but my keyboard and mouse would shut down. So I couldn't use them.
In my BIOS, it gave me the option of 1st drive USB, 2nd drive HDD.
Now, in my bios, it gives me either or. It wont let me set it as 1st drive usb and second hdd, nor will it let me set first drive hdd and second usb (boot device priority)

It does, however, recognise the HDD because in boot drive options it lets me switch between usb and hdd.

I didn't have to change io to achi or any of that sort in the past, it just did everything itself. however ive tried changing it to achi or whatever it is ,removed it as IDE, changed the legacy support enabled PnP, basically tried everything but it just blue screens and it wont give me the option to set the hdd as 2nd boot drive so I can run the usb recovery tool and im sick of it now but need my files.

When I boot from usb, it wont mount my hdd. it did on my first try, but since then it hasn't.

Im in the process of fully formatting my usb again to fat32 and re-installing the recovery tool and then if that doesn't work im gonna screw!
