Problems with new DS3R

I've just bought a load of hardware based around a new Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R motherboard. I plugged everything in and was happy to see it pick up the XP install on my HDD and also the existing RAID 1 array. It's gone downhill from there though - I'm trying to install Windows Vista. Going into the BIOS there is an option to boot from HDD, CD-ROM, floppy and various external devices, but no DVD-ROM boot option  Vista comes on a DVD

I've updated the mobo drivers and done an online search without luck. I've tried to run the Vista upgrade from XP (which the manual suggests is possible), but I'm told the setup file isn't a recognized win32 application. Can anyone tell me what I'm missing? Even the mobo manual doesn't mention a DVD-ROM in the boot options. Without it I'm stuck on XP.

just press CD-ROM, all ODD's count as a CD-ROM in most bioses

Aha that got it, cheers. The first time I tried to boot from CD it paused for a bit and then booted from the HDD. After disabling HDD booting it worked.

Unfortunately after installing Vista successfully I've now had to reinstall XP immediately owing to the fact that Vista won't recognize the speedtouch modem I have, even after downloading updated drivers from another PC :(

These are both excellent suggestions, but unfortunately I have given my router to my parents and I am unsure of how to make a working connection with the onboard ethernet. I am also unsure how to get back to my Vista install since my PC now boots directly into XP (Vista is on another HDD). Google here I come!

You can't use the onboard NIC to connect to DSL unless you happen to live somewhere with an Ethernet presentation at the wall (ISP probably runs bridged) afaik this doesn't happen in the UK...

I don't see it as a downside personally tho that you have to use XP (aside from RAM limitations) Vista is crud.

What speedtouch do you have?

It's a speedtouch 330 that came with my broadband. I am tempted to volley it over my back wall. It's taken me about 8 hours of rebuilding and repatching so far and still going on...

As to the onboard LAN, I can stick a network cable into the mobo, but as someone mentioned above I have nowhere to plug the other end.
