I am searching for a good program to convert AVI to DVD, I currently use Winavi but that isn't really that good with options to lower/higher bitrate to fit more/less on one DVD, also it will not use the two CPU's of my Dual core AMD.

What program uses Dual core CPU's and can adjust the bitrate?

what is it your wanting to do, burn avi files to dvd so you can play it back on a dvd player?

Nero Vision Express does a good job at it dont know about bitrate etc...

Nero Vision Express 3 encoded and burnt a avi file in under 40 mins using my new system, with my old one (3200 Barton, 1GB 3200) it took nearly 1.5 hours, so i can only assume NVE3 uses both cores.

i was also playing Farcry at the time, pretty impressive if you ask me, the game was maxed out and had no jerky performance whilst encoding

The TMPGENC software is very power and should give you a lot more options to play, although i don't know if it use both cores.

A combination of tmpgenc xpress and dvd author will get the job done...

Failing that i quite like ConvertXtoDVD too.

Hmm, WinAVI converts a full move to DVD in 20 minutes on my x2 3800+. Which is very fast. Every time I've used it the quality has been excellent so I'm not of any other programs that are better. : /

dvd2svcd is a really good conversion program that is free but requires an encoder. It takes a lot longer than winavi but the results are flawless everytime plus u can still use comp for browsing etc without interfering with it.

Bitrate can be set to whatever u want but not sure if its optimised for dualcore

Always use WINAVI myself too, it is by far the quickest, although you can get better quality results by using software by canopus etc, but those can take over a day to do a single film rather then the 20mins it takes WINAVI.

Just make sure you install FFDSHOW first, it gets rid of all the lip synch issues.

Never tried convertxtoDVD , going to download the demo now and have a play

This is the programme to use imo! ;)

Am I the only one that has had nothing but problem's with encoding avi -> dvd?

The sound always seems to be out of sync or the video seems to skip every couple of seconds!

You could try a program called Decompress.exe (quick and simple) then, throw it back into WinAvi for encoding.

Nero Vision V4 is a good program with quality menu options for start of DVD to make it look fantastic.

Would also recomend the plug in for it gives you loads of extras.

I use DVD santa converts AVI to DVD then allows you to burn the DVD, i think its better than other and easy'er to use imo.
