My mate has a laptop for work and uses some HM Tax cd's. Thing is, she can't get them to load on her laptop (Other cd's load fine) but they load fine on her home PC!

The program is on the laptop.

What can she do please.

What do you mean by won't open?

If she's getting the Open With dialog box then just set up a file association in Folder Options > Associations (It's something like that...)

Alternatively, right click on the files and select Open With and navigate to the relevant program, check that Always Open with is checked.

CD's as above wont load / open etc. Only the HM tax ones wont open. They work fine on anothe pc!

eh?? so do other cds load on the work laptop or not?

Could just be a cd drive on the work laptop that is crap and cant read a scratched cd as much as the home pc. This used to happen all the time with cds, i could put them in my stereo cd player and they worked fine then pc wouldnt fire them up at all.

Too Vague?

2 HM Tax office cd's wont open / load on laptop where other will.

2 HM Tax cd's will open on home pc.

Any ideas? Ta

'wont load'?

For all we know, "HM Tax Office cd's" are just discs with PDF files on them, and she doesn't have Acrobat Reader on the machine.

Not trying to be funny here, need more information.

If they're like the ones we have at work it's a proper program with all sorts of shizzle in it. It **might** run off Director/Flash but I'm not sure.

Also, they may need an encryption key or other form of software to run if its confidential information. However you say they work at home on a home pc anyway so that wont be it. More than likely just a gash laptop cd drive

What are you doing taking work tax cds home with you anyway?

The cd won't install fully now after trying again earlier. It keeps coming up that the program is not responding when it gets to 8/8 of installation!

Thing is, the cd installs fine on her home pc but not the laptop.

As for taking work tax cd'd home, it is the HM employer CD that she uses for her husbands business. She works from home occasionally!

Is the home pc setup the same as the work pc? Same av etc

Try burning the cds onto backup or copying the data from them to a memory stick/other drive at home then bring them into work. Or just remote into the home pc from work

No AV. Works on 2 separate PC's (One is a laptop) but not the laptop. Burnt a copy but still the same.

Could it be that windows is corrupted on the laptop and something is stopping that program from installing?

She used to have the program on the laptop some time ago and it worked fine!

What type of installer is it?

Some installers go funny if they're missing registry keys for defining temp folders or %allusers% folders

Try creating a new user account and installing in there

Vista.

One pc has XP and Vista and works fine. Problem laptop has Vista. I think a re-install of Vista might be on the cards. Tried a lot of other thing but no joy!
