Programming ideas

I'm a bit bored and since we're having a fairly quiet Christmas period once I thought I'd use this as an opportunity to brush up on my programming skills as I haven't written much code for a while. The only problem is I never have any ideas...

Ideally I'm looking for something practical I can work on, rather than just solving Project Euler puzzles (which is fun, but a different kind of fun). So if anyone has any ideas, I'd very much appreciate the suggestions.

Text based adventure game
Twitter client

Also thinking of trying to learn ios development these next few months but need a decent idea to keep me going, I tried this time last year but after creating my first basic one page calculator in the stanford uni lectures I kind of stopped, I need some kind of drive to help me learn.
